I took some pictures of my friend's soccer team over the weekend and I want to give the pictures to him and the parents for printing. Walmart and Target can get a little fussy printing pics for folks if you are not the photographer. What should I do as a 'Just In Case' for the parents and my bud?

walk into the walmart photo department, and get the release form, fill it out and give it to back to the clerk, they will keep it on file, that is what I have done, the person getting the photos printed just has to mention that there is a release on file for them.

Huh! You think I could just give the parents some sort of 'I _State My Name_ Hereby allow _Insert Parent_ the right to reprint these photos for personal use.

Yeah, but I wanted the parents to have the ability to share the pics with friends. (get the word out)
And I put Šjasonmphotos.com on all the pics =)

The walmart here will not read the metadata(They looked at me funny when I asked about it), anyone can write something up and fake it, you may be able to download the form but I am not sure about that. They will refuse to print with a copyright on the photos with out a release on file.

Burn A copy on CD/DVD, Label it and add "Permission to Print". I use a Lightscribe burner which lets you burn an image and text on the top side of the CD/DVD.

I've had problems before at Wal-Mart.
They wanted permission from the photographer and I said "Ok! Go for it". They kept insisting for permission and I kept saying "OK!!" They finally realized what I was getting it and had me fill out a release to keep on file...haven't used them since.

The staff here never even look when you print them yourself. Just plug in the memory, print, and walk. Never a problem.

I'd suggest never using them actually. Horrible quality, especially if you use those worthless Kodak kiosk machines.

I agree I wouldn't want anyone to print at Wal-Mart or Target but the fact is, people will if they have images to print since they are cheap (and cheap quality at that!)
Here's info about the copyright and image release:
Wal-Mart: http://photos.walmart.com/copyrightpolicy
Target: http://www.kodakgallery.com/HelpAnswerPopup.jsp?answer_url=http://targetpop.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/targetpop.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php&p_faqid=1031&p_created=1150752227
I give my clients an image release to have prints made anywhere and have my contact information on there too, but now that I know about the image releases from Wal-Mart & Target, I will include those as well.

I've had that problem with Wal-mart not printing them because they look too "professional." I always hand them a business card and say, "I know, that's the idea." But when I have customers pick up stuff I may have not ordered from my real lab, I give them a copyright release saying that they are allowed to pick them up in my absence. I also sign a copyright release at the store they're picking the up at. If it's too far away for me to drive, then I have my local Wal-mart fax a copy to the other one.
So just print out a release and have the customer take it to walmart. Put in there that if they have any doubts, to call you immediately, and give your phone number. If you have a website and stuff like that, it will be more helpful for the customer if you include that info, so it doesn't look like they're trying to pull on over on the lab tech.

trust me on this one guys, wal-mart is one of the worst choices when it comes to prints. The pictures look like crap when they come out of there. I used them one time and, never again.

I never had a problem with quality with the matte finish (on Fuji CrystalArchive paper), but the quality from the Kodak kiosks leave a lot to be desired...for one, I hate gloss prints and the paper is much thinner...I never get gloss anyway.
I like to upload through the web and pick them up later but I've also used the MPix lab through my online store (the quality [print & paper] is equal between Wal-Mart and Mpix as far as I see) and it's alot more convenient to drive down the road a couple miles if there is a problem.

Agreed. I would rather go to Wolf/Ritz camera for prints! :)
