MACRO on it? It's not really considered a macro lens is it?

I think that's because you can get pretty darn close to your subject with that lens than you could with ordinary lenses. My 28-135 IS allows me to get some very close flower pictures and it also says "Macro" on it but it doesn't focus as close as the 24-70 does. But you are right, it's not a true macro (as in 1:1 magnification) lens.
