Better late than never with these I suppose!
I was also at Croft last weekend for the opening rounds of the Northern Sports and Saloon Car Championship. What a fantastic weekend of racing, not just from the NSSCC, but from the other classes that were racing as well.
#1 I think I've found out why they call it the 'Fun' Cup LOL

All of the pictures were taken with a 1D mk II, and either an 85mm f1.8, or a 120-300 f2.8. There's full galleries from each day of racing on my website: -

Note to anyone lacking a sense of humour. The above post is a joke. Unlike some photographers i shoot only where i'm allowed to :p

Very nice, Simon. I'll bet #1 was the only enjoyment to be had from the fun cup though!

I've never created an animated GIF before, so I thought 'why not have a go?'. So here's my first event animation from my 1D mk II. It's the full sequence of the Beetle getting into the gravel trap in #7. I don't usually have the camera in high speed burst mode, but I was deliberately looking for something like this, so utilised the full fps rate on this occasion. You'll need to give it time to load.

I doubt it's something I'll do very often, but creating it kept me amused this morning while I muched my breakfast!
Cheers,
Simon.

Cheers Geoff. The grid girls certainly brightened up Sunday morning - poor bu@@ers were freezing though! I do like that angle at Tower.

Top set Simon, perfect;)
Thanks Jim. Wouldn't go as far to say 'perfect' - there's things I would improve about all of the shots if I could.

Thanks Glenn, glad you like them!
You know, as in previous years, the Fun Cup was actually pretty good and reasonably entertaining. There was a big grid of evenly matched cars, and some really good battles throughout the field. Ultimately I do find them a bit boring after a while. However, that's not because it's the Fun Cup, but more that it's a 3 hour endurance race. Honestly, I think you could put pretty much any class of car out on track for that length of time for me, and I think I would feel the same way. I much prefer the shorter sprint type races that the NSSCC, Minis and XR2s gave us. Horses for courses I guess!
Cheers,
Simon.

What's the exif on those 2?
Thanks Borbor. #2 was taken at 1/250s and #7 at 1/320s, both in shutter priority. In both cases, ISO was chosen to give me an aperature of f8 or higher to give me the DoF that I wanted.

Simon - great pics. Had a look through them all on your site and I love the ones of me at Tower, especially in the early part of Sunday's race running 6th with about 5 cars behind me. I just got mugged one lap (which you have a pic of too) cos every other one seemed faster!
Oh and nearly forgot my car looks cracking in the shot you took of it in the paddock. Think I may still have been in my hotel bed at that point..!

Great shots Simon, I see you managed to work out how to create the animated gif sorry I couldn't help at the time. Strange that those young ladies covered up as they approached me and Tony, can't think why ;)
Cheers

Brilliant shots! how you creat the gif?
Thanks :D. To create the gif, I re-sized the pictures I wanted to use down to 400 pixels, and then used the Animation option in PS. Once I had the timings and picture order set, I then used the save for web and devices option to output the animation as a gif.
Cheers,
Simon.

Thanks Ian. I had a play about with PS on Saturday morning and figured it all out. I didn't realise when I originally texted you that you were already out and about for the Jim Clark.
Cheers,
Simon
