What are some good shots for guitars? I took this one, but I don't know if I like it. Thanks

Guitar player eh? Me too. This shot doesn't do anything for me, take the same shot except zoom out so you can see the whole top of the guitar, and also angle it more so you can see the fretboard. On guitar.com this type of shot is called a "mercy shot". You can't go wrong with guitar shots really. I'd probably like this one if I could see the fretboard.

Well, I like the shot. It's an interesting perspective and makes me want to know more about the instrument. Still, it depends what you want to use the shot for... It doesn't give much information about the guitar so, if that's your aim you would need to raise the camera and get more in. Also, I think I would like to see all six pegs (assuming it has six strings). Then, is the colour off? Looks like it could do with some WB adjustment but then, you might want to keep it like that. Maybe too, slightly less dof so that more of the strings are in focus. The shot has a slight, "what do you think it is2 kind of feel but that might be what you were going for.

All of those comments are picky (pun intended!). Overall, to me it is a good photo with an interesting perspective. I like the obvious symetry but that's me.

Thanks very much for posting.

Regards

Martin

the problem is the guitar, it's just not good enough. come buy one of mine and you will get much better shots.

ok just kidding, you might try a wide shot of someone playing it with the camera looking down the neck from near the headstock, could look pretty cool.

I think it would be better to see more of the instrument....Here are a few pix of my guitar to give you a couple of ideas....

I like the first picture of the second post the best. It says "Guitar" without being too outlandish. It is distinctive, pleasing to look at, the plain black background is perfect. Very nice shot without being cliche.

I like it......nice use of DOF to show the detail around the sound hole.
