i just have a quick question: do people ACTUALLY pay 750 bucks for CS3, or do you borrow from a friend. I would personally never spend 700 on a program when i could get a lens for that much.

That's why I use Paint Shop Pro.

You kind of answered your own question (assuming the friend had to buy it) :)

Sure, why not? A few years ago I started doing freelance graphic design and In order for me to do my job effectively I had to buy the design package which consisted of Photshop 7, Indesign, Illustrator. All three were used for most of my jobs. One big project paid for the whole suite and then some:)

I know many people do photography for hobby and they would be ok using Elements or a program without all the bells and whistles.

Now back to the thread :)

This was done in PS7, I've moved on to CS and will upgrade to CS3 very soon.

Taken at the Metro Toronto Zoo
Rebel XT Canon 100-400

I pretty much took out all the BG using the background eraser tool except for the rock it was standing on. Used another image I took with a better BG. Adjusted curves to match the lighting as bes I could.

There seems to be no end to those that criticize others on how they choose to spend their money
and/or the direction they want to take their work.

Why is that?

Anyway, here's my example.

Have a student buy it at school for half price. Or sign up for a class, purchase your product, usually colleges have image editing programs on site, then you could always , drop the class:rolleyes: Make sure you get the right edition, mac/windows.

I just started learning Photoshop a few months ago and have been taking night classes. I have CS3 Suite. Man, what a learning curve - I don't think it will ever end! Here are a couple of my recent ones:

1. Not sure on camera, it was done for a client of mine who took the picture. Cropped, blued the sky up, reconstructed the bottom left hand side of the picture to get rid of the toys and dirt pile.

http://KitKat987.smugmug.com/photos/292762844_WGpCx-L-4.jpg

2. One of my horses. Removed the fence, did a black and white conversion. Fixed a spot on his neck. I think this one was taken with my XTi, but could have been the 40D, can't remember and too lazy to open bridge and find out ;)

uhhh... NO I DON'T STEAL SOFTWARE, and I don't recommend it either. Its hard to resist going into another rant about people crying when some kid uses their $5 image on myspace, but thinks that stealing $700 in software is ok. Maybe I will save it for next time.

I am just starting out and building a little camera collection right now, so I am sticking with iPhoto and Gimp for editing, thus no images to post in the CS3 editing thread. At some point spending some money on Aperture and another editing program may make a lot more sense though since I get to use that to improve EVERY picture I take while my next lens will probably only help a small percentage of them.

I work hard and make good money because of it. Therefore I can afford expensive software when I want to. No STEALING involved.

If your not a pro, the academic version costs about $280.

S.Horton

I paid full price, because the academic license differs.

As for pirating any Adobe software, I would not recommend it, because it will only be a matter of time before you get caught.

The trick to the "speech bubble" syndrome is to make a Levels Adjustment Layer and move the Middle Slider to the left, you will be able to ALL of the places that you thought were gone after cloning.
Afterwards, just throw the Layer Adjustment away.
(That is, if "speech bubble" is the cloned areas behind his head) :)
I just thought I'd mention that if anyone's wondering.

Nice shot, and good all around job too!
