Can you please supply me with some critique on this photo? I've known about this shot for months and finally took the drive to get it.
What needs to be done and do you actually like it?

That's an incredible scene! The shot does seem a little under exposed. Also, just for fun try taking a shot from more extreme angle, so you get a large picture of a farm vehicle then a row going off into the distance. Really though, you found a great spot.

I like it a lot - kinda sad in a way too though.
Did you take any close up shots? Might be nice to see some of those machine details?

Both your comments are much appreciated. I will definitely take another drive over there and see if the owner will allow me inside the fenced area as these pics were snapped from outside the fence. It may very well be a smorgasbord of photo's.

Colin,
Get in that graveyard asap. Lots of nice shots waiting for you there!

Colin,
As the boys say, you have found a treasure trove of
photographic material.
Even your present shot is not beyond help.
First thing is to cut out the bright sky.
The brightest part of the image being an empty sky is not good.
I would cut it down to roof level.
You don't want your viewers looking at the sky
as it makes the rest of the image relatively darker.
Then a little fiddling in an editing program, not necessarily PS, will do wonders for this same shot.
You can do it yourself, or I'll do it for you if you like.
PS a fellow who lines up the antiques like this will surely
be delighted to let you in to take more shots.
You might even find he'd like some for himself.

Hey Colin, it's a nice shot.
As follow-on to eland's suggestion on cropping, you may even want to crop all the way to the lower roofline, and take some of the foreground grass away, and end up with a 4x10 or 4x12 "pseudo-panorama." Very subjective, I know, but I thought it might look interesting that way. Cheers,

I only have one minute spare -- but will get back to this.
But for starters .. I want to know if behind your post is the question as to whether this image has the stuff it takes to be a winner. Well, like all but 00.1% of my own shots, I would say no! We have to try to get better and your post may help.
I hope that you -- like me -- dream of developing a eye that takes shots like you will see on the Kodak site. If that is so, I suggest that this happy state has not arrived with this image. Why. Well, just go thru their guide.
*no frame ..
*no lines...
*no special light
*etc.
So this does not knock my socks off. However the car is sending me some vibes. (see also Clio's trip to farm machinary on Santa Cruz). I want you to have that car pulled out and do something with it that will knock my socks off.

Hey Colin,
I agree with everyone, you found an incredible place filled with photo ops. The best advice I can give you is something my photography teacher told me a few years ago: When you find yourself in an amazing place crammed with wonders with which to fill the frame, take as many shots as you can from as many angles as possible, because who knows when you might get the next chance to see it, right? By this I mean, throw yourself belly first on the ground if need be (I'm ridiculed for this quite often), get a shot from under the objects, to the side of them, above them, long shot, macros, try looking only for interesting lines, or fabulous colors.
Chances are that if you take 100 shots, you'll get one incredible one. That's what digital is all about, no?
Just my two cents. :)

Excellent feedback people. I will most deinately take a trip back there this Saturday and bring a couple extra cards with me. I'll humble myself and knock on the door and see if they'll be kind enough to let me spend a half hour there. I'm sure they will considering the way everything is displayed.
Great thanks especially to you Howie. Of course freinds. Absolutely! I appreciate the kodak tips very much.
Clio, you're right. I don't get my belly dirty enough.:)
