I'm normally reticent to show my photos (I'm my own harshest critic and rate most of them as average at best!) but I'm actually pleased enough with these (and a bunch of others from the same day) that I thought I'd stick my neck out and give it a go. All except the mechanic at work were shot with a rented 100-400 L. I now wish I had a grand lying around doing nothing because I really want that lens!!

Great background interest and ideal DOF in the Robert Lawson one.

Gotta love the 100-400 L - I just brought one today and even though I've taken about 30 frames with it I already know I'm going to like it.

Thanks, Paul. I struck lucky with that shot, happening to have the most suitable aperture, and I was pleased with the effect of the heat haze (which you don't often get in this country!)

I'm going back there for the F3 and GT weekend -- I might well rent the 100-400 again for that.

Yeah, I love the 100-400 already. I had a 75-300 that was just a bit too short and I never found it sharp enough for my liking. I've never photographed motorsport before but now I have this lens I'm going to arrange some this year.

I got it from Lenses For Hire (http://www.lensesforhire.co.uk/), which was recommended by some forum members. I paid £69 for a three day hire with courier delivery and pick-up, insurance included, which I thought was pretty reasonable. The service was good.
