This is a picture of the Spokane, Portland, Seattle #700 Steam Engine, owned by the city of Portland, Oregon. It was doing a exibition run today and I managed to catch it while it was in the station for an hour.

This is an 8 series panorama of the train. I was in front of the engine and it produced some interesting barrel distortion because of the swing of my camera down the train.

Taken with a 10D, 24-70 2.8L at ISO 200 f3.2 at 1/50th.

I like it. The distortion makes the engine look very long... ;)

Even without the distortion, the engine was very long. :D

After I saw the image I started thinking had I know it was going to turn out this way I would have tried to exaggerate it even more and get a wrap around effect. I wasn't sure a panorama of the train would work out since I was shooting away from me down a long object rather than a distant scene like I usually do. I have a bunch of others I took of multiple images and I'll see how those turned out.

Thanks for looking.

I like the perspective. It's very interesting, and gives the image a different bit of life.

That is a big engine. It is one of the largest steam engines still running in North America, and one of the prettiest (IMHO).

That's an interesting shot. Very well done.

Thanks guys. This really is a very beautiful restored steam engine. I wish I'd gotten there 10 minutes earlier so I could have gotten up on the over walk bridge and taken pictures as it came into the station. They don't get to bring the 3 steam engines that Portland owns out very often so I like to get pictures when they do.

Thanks for looking! :D
