I've been shooting the normally un-photographed, or little known areas of the city for about six months. Last week I started shooting the backsides of buildings - not necessarily in alleys, but places I didn't expect to find anything to shoot really....inspite of myself, I found a few places that were pretty unexpected...couple of shots...second one is that dreaded orange shy from the city lights....wondering if anyone knows of a filter you can use to get rid of it while shooting....yes i shot in raw and yes i changed white balance settings but to little avail..altho in some ways that orange sky might actually work here -
any help, suggestions, comments welcome.

I like the orange glow - adds a sense of industrial activity unseen over the buildings. Or even the raging fires of hell!! ;)

I agree with Damian and would only add that the shot makes you look into it searching for detail. I like it - nice capture.

I like the upper one much more. It's more dynamic and mysterious.

Thanks Guys! And I agree with you, Pekka.....there's something mysterious about it with the color and lighting which is what I was attempting to get at....I think its oddness is also that this street is in the middle of the city on one of the main drags through town.....

CD,

I also really like the upper one. At first, I admit that I initially dismissed it as "too dark" (which may keep shallow minded people like me from enjoying it). As I kept reading the postings, and seeing it over and over, it began to grow on me - now I really like it.

I still wish that there were a touch more something for light to bounce off of in the forground. The two areas - one between the building and most upper path (?) and the other between the lower path and the LowerLeft corner are still dark. Would it kill the mood to selectivly boost the contrast in those areas to give a few more highlights? I don't know.

Would you be willing to post an unaltered one. I have a feeling that if this were mine, I might have dismissed it as inconsequential, and not put in the effort. If I can see where others started and then it led them it helps to inspire me.

Not bad suggestions Rad! Let me see what I can do with the contrast in those areas....also when it warms up a bit (we're at -30 wind chills) I plan on reshooting...
Will post the original tomorrow!
Thanks for you comments!!!!!

Ok. This is the original. Shot in raw. Iso 200. shutter speed was 5. F/11. Flash was on (I use a promaster 7500 in manual mode). White point tungsten. Center weighted and shot on manual.
