Tomorrow (21 December) is the shortest day of the year.

Good News: Northern Hemisphere - the longer days are coming and the summer is on its way.

Bad News: Southern Hemisphere - you don't live up here! :D

Bummer. I was kinda liking the fact that the sun didn't rise until after 7:00 AM - it gave me plenty of time to sleep in and still drive 2 hours and still catch the sunrise. Now I'm going to have to start waking up at 3:30 in the morning....

And I'm sure they're very glad about that at the moment as they lay on their beach chair, tanning themselves under that nice hot sun with an umbrella-topped cold glass of sweet, tropical fruit drink in their hands.

Sure wish I could go join them to get away from the 11 F temperature and -12 F wind chill. :(

Just be glad you're not in a metric country because then it would be -24 wind chill. <brrr>

Yeah, and the air temperature would be minus 11 degrees. Now that's really cold. No wonder it gets so cold up there in Canada where they use Celsius instead of Farenheit thermometers. <brrr> is right!

Lets see. Right now it is -25C. Got a wee bit of a North West wind blowing giving a windchill of -37C. Supposed to get a mite cooler tonight. Isn't Canada a wonderful place this time of year?:):):)

Well I'm sure it keeps the tourism down, so You Canadians must have the whole place to yourselves. Now that must be kind of nice.   I won't even travel as far north as Vermont

Just as a point of reference, -40 is the same in C and F:cry:

Ottawa woke up to -45C with wind chill, even my Chevy Silverado didn't like it:lol:

Don't pass up the Great White North for tourism. There are some grteat winter carnivals in most areas. Ottawa and Quebec City have world renouned (sp?) events:)

The thought of walking down the world's lomgest skating rink (Rideau Canal, Ottawa) and eating a Beaver-tail (deep fried pastry covered with butter and cinamon and strawberry jam) just makes you wnat to get back into the bush:D

Check it out some time!

Sounds great, truth be known I love winter and the cold a lot more than the heat and humidity of August, It's a heck of a lot easier to get warm than it is to stay cool

To all of you non Canadians. Please don't think that the weather in Ottawa in indicative of what it is like everywhere in Canada.
Out here in Victoria on the west coast it was 10C or 50F yesterday. When I went for a walk around the neighbourhood I could here lawnmowers in a few places.

According to Lonnie (ThomasCanty), all the Canadians are down here in the desert. He drove though here last week and was blown away by the number of Canadian license plates he saw.

On the other hand, I haven't been aware of anyone talking really funny (eh?), so maybe they just send their cars down here. Haven't seen any Azteks, though.

I think the Canadian cars migrate south on their own accord, except for the Azteks, of course, which I'm sure are related to the ducks and geese that are still left in Canada.
