Anyone have this combination?

I bought the lens and as an after Xmas present to myself I am looking for a 1.4x converter.

On Canon's website; I read this today:

Extender EF 1.4x II

Lens Extender
http://consumer.usa.canon.com/sys/images/spacer.gif

Item Code: 6845A004AA

This tele extender can be used with fixed focal length lenses 135mm and longer (except the 135mm f/2.8 Softfocus lens), and the EF 70-200 f/2.8L, 70-200 f/2.8L IS, 70-200 f/4.0L, and 100-400 f/4.5-5.6L IS zoom lenses.

Can someone confirm/deny this? This _really_ bums me out if it's true....

Are You disappointed that the 1,4 extender works with the 70-200 mm f4 L or what?

I have that combination and it works great, here is a sample

Maybe I didn't express my fear..

The website says it will NOT work

I haven't bought the converter yet; but was planning on it soon. I already have the lens...

Do you have the first version of the teleconverter; or the II version?

Thanks for the reply.. Maybe I'll go to a local store and see if it does work before attempting to buy it..

Thanks again.

it works fine with 70-200/4L, but no AF with 100-400L.

Actually it says it will work with

- fixed focal length lenses 135mm and longer (except the 135mm f/2.8 Softfocus lens)
and
- the EF 70-200 f/2.8L, 70-200 f/2.8L IS, 70-200 f/4.0L, and 100-400 f/4.5-5.6L IS zoom lenses.

the exception only applies to the 135 mm mentioned in the ().

btw in this forum there is a sticky with a lot of useful links one of which is a great post by CDS that can tell You everything You want to know about extenders :)

Ups, forgot to answer that, I have version II but I don't think it matters with regards to which lens it will work with.

the way I read the web site is that the 1.4 DOES work with the 70 - 200.

I am pleased to read that link. I too have the F2.8L 70-200 and I purchased, but have not yet used, the 2X 11 extender.

Tdragone, you have misread Canon's statement. It states that the extender does work with the 70-200f/4.0L. I can confirm that it works from my own experience as well.

Reread the canon site it does say the 1.4 works with the zoom including the 70-200 f4 L

I don't know what you are reading, but this text says it WILL work. Doesn't matter if it's a version I or II. The diff between I and II is mostly a o-ring for weather protection. Some people claim the glass is better, but I wouldn't bet on that one.

Anyway, for a fact, it will work.

Question for users Extender + 70-200 mm f4 L:
What Minimum distance of Focus?

T-Cons do not effect minimum focus distance (no lie)

So.. whatever the manuafacturer lists for the lens itself.

I think it's kinda cool that the T-Cons don't affect focus at all (at least my Canon 1.4 doesn't). So I can focus on something with my 100-400 @ 400 and then throw the TCon into the mix and it's still focused. While certainly slow, it "does" AF....

As the teleconverter gives a 1.4x and taking into account that the camera gives 1.6x (drebel and 20), the zoom range of the 70 to 200 will then become 157 to 448.
Is this statement correct?

Yes, it's the equilivent of that on a 35mm camera.

I recently got the Kenko Teleplus in a grab bag of
purchases, and I must say the fun factor with it has
been very high. I've attached it to my 70-200 f4L
and found it to be a great zoo combination. It also
works with EF every lens, including my 85mm f1.8.

Here's a pic of a p-bear I took with the 70-200 f4L
plus Kenko combo:

Of course, I've read many reports from internet
purists pointing out what a piece of crap it is, and
when I pixel peep, I can certainly tell the difference
between the pure lens and the lens w/ the Kenko
teleconverter. But for what the device costs, I'm
very happy to have it as a toy.

That photo looks pretty good to be, i'd ignore the pixel peepers on this one :)

I am indeed. People sometimes place way too
much trust on reviews. I was expecting the Teleplus
to be a complete junk, but it is quite respectable in
doing what it says it does. B&H has it for $79; I paid
about $35 dollars for it, used.

I have a 70-200 f4L, and a 1.5x Kenko teleconverter. My txcon is about 5 years old .. lol ..

Here is a image I took yesterday ..
This plane is on the Intrepid, and I was on the other side of the West Side highway. (Opposite side of the highway that the Ship was on.. )

Still works great for me.
No loss in stops either
