The Cure at Agganis Arena, Boston (my review of the show (http://www.bigtakeover.com/reviews/the-cure-with-65daysofstatic-agganis-arena-boston-ma-monday-may-12-2008))

good show to shoot, lightingwise...unfortunately you couldn't shoot outside of the front pit, so getting a full stage shot w/ the lighting rig wasn't very easy, esp as they had fairly large and numerous monitors on the stage floor. after my 3 songs were up, i stashed my gear at guest services and enjoyed the rest of the 2.75 hrs of the gig. oh, and almost immediately into the shoot, my grip stopped working on the 5D...i couldn't dial the AF select, use * for AF, or even release the shutter; taking it off and reinstalling didn't fix it. this happened to my 30D and i had to get it fixed @ Canon, so i thought it was more of the same problem. as you can see, most of the shots are in portrait orientation, so i had to angle my hand to shoot...kind of a pain in the arse. well i check out my gear the next morning and the recessed power switch on the grip is halfway to the 'off' position...doh!

I like #1 and 5 best. The B&W works well here.
#1 and 8 look a bit strange and "gritty" / oversharpened. Might be because of the colors of the lighting.

number five is lovely. 6 and 8 great too.

thanks rené and roman!

on the 1st and last, i ran an action that i probably should have reduced the opacity a bit; i did like the gritty look which i was going for, but noise in the background is also amplified too much.

Great colors in most of these...they have great lighting (learning not to use 40 yellow canned lights?). Try and do a little color correction on number 7.

I agree with number 5. Whats it look like in color?

I also really like #5. And man, Robert Smith is looking old these days (but I guess he is!)

Oddly enough, I had a similar problem with my 5D about two weeks ago, except it was the main shutter button that stopped working, not the grip.

First two sets of Sunday during a festival, the button just stopped working. It would activate the auto focus, but upon pressing harder to fire the shutter, I'd get nothing. I shot two acts using my little finger to fire the grip button when shooting horizontal. I had a break between sets, and when turning the camera on about an hour later to start shooting the third, the button miraculously worked again (and has ever since).

Weird.

Very nice shots indeed Tim - I agree that #s 1 & 5 are the pick of the bunch.

As for grips - you don't need to worry about them when you have a 1D!

Amazing, I picked #1 and #5 before seeing any other comments ... I'm not sure if that is good or bad when I agree with two of the best Pros on the boards! My 5D grip has never been a problem and I plop it on and off a lot depending on the job ... and I've got plenty of 1D bodies.

Great shots, but even better shoes in #5.
