For someone just starting out which would be the easiest to learn Landscape or Macro

Probably landscape. You can do it with just about any lens (standard zoom such as the 18-55 can do it just fine) and you probably don't need to use a flash or any kind of lighting. With macro you may need a macro lens or closeup fliters (depending what you want to do), flash, maybe reflector. I personally am a bit bored of macro photography (seems everybody is doing it) I want to shoot more people.

Yep, I'd agree that landscapes would make a better starting point. Both however, have thier own learning curve. Before you start a lot of shooting have a look at some good landscape images to get an idea how to frame a shot. Take your time and look at a scene from different perspectives.
An image that didn't work one day may the next because of a change in weather or light conditions.
