Hi there,

Can't remember a day where I have ever got so wet taking photos, had to call it a day around 2.30pm as I was completely soaked.

The teams did really well out there, loads of slipping and sliding and to be honest it was really tough to get anything resembling a decent picture as there was so much spray around.

Anyway heres a few for you.

Hi,

To be honest I like them more than the same old sunny day motor racing shots - something different.

10/10 for staying out there and I think you've come away with some cracking shots!

Fantastic shots Tim. You're more hardcore than me that's for sure. I was going to make the trip to Brands Hatch this weekend for the Masters Historic Fesitval which promised to be a great event, but with the weather looking very dodgey, and a 3 hour + trip to get there, I knocked it on the head! Gonna go to my local park today in Oulton Broad to watch some Powerboat racing instead and hopefully get some photos!

Out of interest, what do you usually do to protect your camera from getting saturated? I have a water-proof sock, with a draw string at each end, but it really doesn't make using the camera very easy. Just curious how other photographers manage to keep the water out of their equipment on days when the weather takes a turn for the worse like you had at Rockingham?

I totally agree with PaulBradley's comment, the water and spray really make for more interesting photo's IMHO, and you've certainly got some crackers here. My personal favourites are #4, #7 & #8. I look forward to seeing the rest of your photo's on your website :D

Kevin,

Many thanks for the comments, am quite chuffed with the pics now I have looked back through them. Not sure I will be in such a hurry to go out in the rain again though, still haven't got my trainers dry from yesterday.

A few of the photographers had special covers / lens hoods to keep there equipment dry. Personally I always carry a good old fashioned black bin liner. I make a small hole just big enough to put the lense through and then wrap the rest of the bag around the camera just leaving a gap for me to see down the viewfinder. Worked really well and the bin liner is just thin enough for me to press the shutter through.

Thanks for the reply Tim, I really think you should be pleased with your photo's, even more so since you managed to get some great shots when the conditions were so nasty. I will give the black bin liner a go when I am next out in the rain. Fortunately the last time I was caught out like that was at Le Mans last year, where it rained during qualifying, and then at the start and end of the race last year. As I mentioned in my previous comment, I try to steer clear of rainy events, simply because I don't want to risk damaging my gear (which I couldn't afford to replace right now!). Trouble is, like you have proved, the wet weather can provide some really great photo opportunities, with the spray really emphasising the speed of the cars.

Thanks again Tim. By the way - I had a look at your website, and you've got some really lovely shots on there. In fact I liked them so much that I added a link to your webpage from my own. I hope you don't mind :D

Kevin,

Don't mind at all, when I get the links page up and running on my site I will be sure to return the favour.
