I finally received my nice Canon 10D. I mounted the BG-ED3 grip with its two batteries.
I attached my 28-to-135 IS lens from my film days. I mounted the 420EX flash unit. And I felt I was in the gym. Heavy, more than 5 lbs in my hands. Also, I thought the grip would make my vertical pictures easier, but the flash gets in the way of a comfortable grip for the left hand. After my first day of wandering around trying it out my right hand was tired.
One other puzzle: when shooting on auto with the 420EX my histograms tend to be squished to the left a significant amount--almost half of the horizontal. Is this a common observation?

You need the 580EX Flash, and some L Glass to finnish that off

Hmmm, I have seen some extreme examples of 'Walk About' kit in the last week, both tourists. The first had a 300D with grip and a 100-400L, the second had a 20D with 70-200L F2.8, in both cases it appeared to be their only lens. Odd considering they were both in places people normally take panoramic shots

Histograms squished to the left with flash, that is odd, unless your flash is casting a lot of shadows, or there is a lot of area in the background that is out of flash reach?

It's not unusual to have taller peaks to the left with flash due to the dark background. Your highlights from the flash should extend to the right of the histogram though. The peaks will be smaller but they should be there. If you have no data on the right side of the histogram, something is wrong with your exposure. It will be easier to help if you post some pictures and your settings.

You old guys :D should take up weight lifting, I find this stuff easy to use. You sacrifice your pocket for the equipment, now sacrifice your muscles :D

conngrats on the new stuff, happy shooting.

How about shooting a whole day with a couple bodies hanging from you, one pretty much always in your hand, both with 550EX flashed attached, grips, and L glass.
My arms get sore too sometimes :)
