Had an absolute blast shooting these guys! Very dark club, horrible lighting, but I was able to help things along with my Vivitar 285 bounced off ceiling. All shot with XTi, Tamron 17-50MM & onboard Vivitar. Rock & Roll!!

These are excellent seeing that you used a flash. You didnt go overboard like most people on here do, just enough to give some fill (it doesnt even look like most of them were taken with a flash).
Definitely captured the evening...i think smalllll shows like this are the most difficult and you did a great job.

Thanks for your response. Yeah, I kept the Vivitar at 1/4 power pretty much the whole time which also helped with stopping the action... I could shoot bands forever, I LOVE it. However very hard to get paid what you are worth unless the band has lot$ of moola.

Still doesn't happen....lol.
Only thing they pay for is like album shots and portrait shots (for the most part).

agree w/ john...these are excellent. great control of the flash, i wish i could dial it in like this.
do you have any shots w/o flash? i'm still trying to find a good sweet spot for ISO/aperture/SS/flash power.
it says 'flash not fired' in the EXIF; does the Vivitar not report to the camera? also, a bit curious as to why you didn't stop down at all (that said, f/2.8 doesn't look too shallow).

Very nice set. I'd crop the first to get rid of the guitar neck. I think this is about as good as I've seen for flash.

Thanks. Not that difficult really... The low, light-colored ceiling helped a lot w/bounce.
Here's a few without flash. Lighting SUCKED. The Vivitar does NOT comunicate with the camera. It's an awesome, reasonably priced flash & I prefer to work everything manually, including my camera.
I kept the aperture open to allow a good amount of ambient light in and JUST ENOUGH flash to bring out detail/stop action. I used f/4 for a bunch as well and I like bokeh whenever I can get it.

Thanks, Dwight. Coming from you, I'm flattered. Your work rocks.

You seem to have a nack for PP'ing low light photos. Good job with those a couple above me.

thanks for posting those non-flash shots, Axton. one of the venues where i am forced at times to use flash has low ceilings, but unfortunately they are painted black.

I would give it a shot anyway... The bounced light may give you just enough extra help.
