This was taken at College Creek in Williamsburg, VA Sunday morning on my now 48 hour old Canon PowerShot S1 IS.

I just started getting serious in this hobby and upgraded from my point-and-shoot camera. I'm very excited to have a camera with a great level of manual control and also happy I found a community just for Canon photographers. Having been here for an hour I can say this place feels welcoming. I'm just now starting to use all that insight my late father, a Korean war photographer and camera studio owner, passed down to me. So without much more detail I'd like to say hello to the community and welcome you to rip apart my first pic. :)

College Creek, is that where it enters the James? Or the York?

I haven't been here that long, myself, but it's a really useful and fun place to lurk, post and occasionally scandalize. I almost had withdrawal when it shut down a couple of weeks ago.

(Glad to see someone else from Tidewater here; I live in Richmond but grew up in Smithfield, having spent a lot of time in Williamsburg at the scout camp near there.)

Its where it enters the James, keep going down the Colonial Parkway and you'll end up in James Town beach, right by the jamestown pub <awesome>

Its good to see someone from around here too, I make trips to Richmond frequently, my G/F is a Kenetics major at VCU.

Your right about this place being fun, I've been lurking quite a bit. I just finished reading some of the the narrow minded comments on your nude post but I cant comment, link dead.

Rip apart? It's a great shot. Love the banding in the sky, and the silouttes give so much else to look at.

The only thing that I think could have made it better is to position yourself to the tree is in the left third of the pic, and the mound in the right third. The rule of thirds is a good and simple rule
