If the pictures are hosted elsewhere (on your own server, or hosts such as Flickr, photobucket, ...), you can embed up to 8 pictures in a post using the [img] tag (or clicking the picture icon, next to the paper clip)

Just to be accurate. It is per thread.

To be even more accurate:
Allowed # of images: In 'Photo Sharing' section:
You may attach *) maximum of two (2) photos per thread. This means: you may attach up to 2 photos when you start a new thread. You may attach additional photos if requested, but only in a reply to other member's post and request.
You may embed **) maximum of eight (8) photos per thread. This means: you may embed up to 8 photos when you start a new thread. You may embed additional photos if requested, but only in a reply to other member's post. If photo size exceeds 1024x1024 box, you may not embed it: post a link (URL) to it instead.

Trust me, I would never post more than allowed. However, when I look around the wedding forum it seems that most threads contain multiples of 8 (8,16,24). Therefore, I ass-u-me-d that it was somehow acceptable.
Still being sarcastic. It's a sickness.
Edit: Wow, I had no idea that Maureen just posted a thread in the wedding forum regarding this very issue just a few hours prior to my original post. I thought I was the only one that noticed but you guys are on it. Thanks and keep up the good work.
