This was a new tornado siren recently installed.
I talked to people in the area who said without it, they would have never got to safety in time.
The tornado destroyed about 1/3 of the town.

Was this in NE Iowa that just happend yesterday? Several people died in that one. Great shot ... sorry to hear of the distruction and devistation.

Yes, it was. We live to the north about 12 miles.
Got there just after the storm, it's hard to describe the mess.

here in australia we are shocked by the power and awesome destructive force of these tornado's that rip though the U.S our prayers go out for all, for we all have someone we know and care for. regards Rick

Nice shot. Glad to hear that the siren was up before the twister. Anything to save lives. Our prayers are with the people of the town.

Great photos.
Brings back alot of memories of the Tornado that ripped through Plainfield and Joliet when I was a kid, I was on my slip and slide just a few minutes before it hit across the street from our subdivision. Scary stuff, Nature is powerful.

It's been awhile since we've had something this close.
You kind of forget how bad it can be until you see it first hand.
