Got out early this morning...the light was awesome. Used the 180L and shoe mounted 580 + lumiquest softbox. Not 100% sure on my IDs

The lighten is to yellow for my liking.

What is a 180L?

I'll try and translate that MJ:lol:

Yeah the white balance is pretty much correct because of "golden light" of he morning. And I'm quite surprised that you...THE MACRO JUNKIE...haven't heard of the 180L:p

Nice series.

I'll plump for #2 as my favourite, though #3 runs it close...

According to the reviews it doesn't work THAT great w/ a 2x. But I have some shots using the 1.4 TC, it worked nice. But for greater than 1:1, I'd rather use the MP-E. One thing I really like is that you don't block any light since the MFD is 1.5 feet, I just add a little fill and it looks very natural. :)

I think for less money there are lenses that work just as well (like the Sigma 150), but unfortunately for my wallet, I have a thing for L primes.

Nice series.

Thanks, I tried some stacking to get more DOF (which would've been nice for #2) I still haven't got the hang of it yet though!

Congrats on the lens.

#1 - perhaps a bit too central for my liking, not sure if the square crop works either. Would prefer more open space in the direction that the moth is looking to help lead out/into the image.

#2 - Nice! I'd be happy with this!

#3 - you got its backend - we need to see it's front end! DOF looks a bit shallow and the exif data confirms it - f4.5. I'd usually recommend anywhere between f8 to f11. If shooting natural light, boost the ISO.

#4 - Not enough of interest in the frame.

I still feel that the images have a colour cast to them that is not natural, golden light or no.

Nice series.

I've used my 180L a fair bit with either a 36mm tube and/or a 1.4 tele and got some very nice results.
