There i was on Friday happily working (no sarcastic comments please) when the mobile rang. The voice on the other end (some bloke known as "Petrolhead"? ) asked if i was going up to the land of Haggis & fried things for the Jim Clark Rally. Sadly i was planning a full weekend shooting JetSkis so i said no...

When i got home a bit later i found myself browsing the Rally website where i noticed a certain car was entered...so phone call was made to the strange chap from earlier in the day and we arranged a day out. Wahayyy !

1. Winners of the International Rally - Eamonn Boland & Damien Morrisey in an ex Petter Solberg Impreza WRC

2. Erm...you're not supposed to be carrying that with you..
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/geoff.hubbert/Pics/Images2008/Jim%20Clark/JIMC0022.jpg

3. Escort chucking up muchos cack. Not a particularly good shot but it breaks up the boredom.

4. We had great plans for the water splash. Unfortunately most of Scotland had the same plans and we couldn't get anywhere near where we wanted to be. Bugger !
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/geoff.hubbert/Pics/Images2008/Jim%20Clark/JIMC0140.jpg

5. Hugh Evans & Iestyn Williams in the new SubarAstraFocus Impreza..for anyone who doesn't get that, the new Scoob looks like every other hatchback on the market.
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/geoff.hubbert/Pics/Images2008/Jim%20Clark/JIMC0302.jpg

6. I waited a long time for this one..we missed it in the morning having moved at the wrong time. The car that i got out of bed for - Andy Fenwick & Lee Tindall in a Skoda Octavia WRC. I believe it's an Evo 3 if you want that much info !
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/geoff.hubbert/Pics/Images2008/Jim%20Clark/JIMC0368.jpg

7. Another car that made the trip worthwhile. John Price's gorgeous MG Metro 6R4.
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/geoff.hubbert/Pics/Images2008/Jim%20Clark/JIMC0384.jpg

8. And finally my 2nd favourite car from the recent WRC era. Steve Simpson's lovely Hyundai Accent WRC. You can keep your Subaru, Mitsubishi, Ford Focus etc. Give me one of these or an Octavia any day.
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/geoff.hubbert/Pics/Images2008/Jim%20Clark/JIMC0390.jpg

All the above are with the 1DMK2N and Sigma 120-300 except for the MK2 Escort where i had the 24-105L screwed on.

I honestly think we picked the worst 2 stages for shooting purposes. I'll be doing more research and trying to avoid the crowds next year !
Thanks for looking in. The rest is up to you lot. : - )

Really clear and sharp shots ,Geoff,7 and 8 are stunning.
Well impressed with that Sigi.:)
Have you ever used a polariser on it to cut out the glare?

Good stuff Geoff

Mr Price in the 6R4 for me, you can see the effort in his face it takes to chuck a beast like that around

All great pictures, but the last is my pick, the smoke really adds to the action the car is definitely moving.

please don't tell me that it is Ari Vatanen's Escort on #3...it's been like 25 years since his last RAC win...

I have to admit i didn't notice the Co-driver's eyes until i posted that on here :)

Haha. Bloody Skoda owners eh ?. I'll be at Croft for both days and i still have some batteries for you

Have you ever used a polariser on it to cut out the glare?

Apparently they have all sorts of wierd effects on windscreens so i never bother...and i'm too tight to buy a 105mm filter for the 120-300 :D

Nice shots geoff, you have beaten me to it :)
It took me ages to go through all these AND the Jetski stuff from Sunday...what's your excuse? :p

Aye the water splash made quite an impact on some of the cars. I reckon a snorkel would have been useful for some of them.

Mr Price in the 6R4 for me, you can see the effort in his face it takes to chuck a beast like that around

I read somewhere that you can't handbrake the Metro?..i have no idea if it's true or not.
All great pictures, but the last is my pick, the smoke really adds to the action the car is definitely moving.

It was difficult to get any movement into those as it's a hairpin and the car were almost at a stop. The steam from the water splash down the hill saved the day though.

please don't tell me that it is Ari Vatanen's Escort on #3...it's been like 25 years since his last RAC win...

I have no idea, but i thought Ari won in a 205 T16?

Thanks for the comments everyone. I wasn't going to bother posting these but it seems you've enjoyed some of them :)

Google doesn't throw up anything noteworthy on the reg either.

All good shots Geoff but I think the one of Ashley and Graham in the MKII and John Price in the 6R4 stand out from the rest. You do realise that Andy and Lee were in the Rievers rally on Sunday in the Octavia also;) Also I think Andy is thinking of doing the Tyneside stages over Otterburn next month, something to look forward too.

Cheers
Ian

Thanks Ian :)

I knew the Octavia was out on Sunday but i wanted to get down to the Barrage for the JetSki's. However, if he's coming out to play at Otterburn i might have to get the flak jacket & tin hat out and head for the ranges :D

Don't recognise the reg as being one of his cars

would have been like 1980± an Escort RS1800 champing RAC Rally
yes, he did Peugeot as well, but he was an Escort man...or should we say The Escort Man

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pbl8LgLXwRo (sorry petrolhead, hadn's seen your post)

see the man drive...the limits just aren't there!

in those days your chances of winning were very slim unless your name ended with an -en...Vatanen, Kankkunen, Mäkinen, Aaltonen, Pitkänen, Alén...

Superb 6R4 shot, you can really see the effort he's putting in.

too bad you get the credits for the speed, not the effort
I really like the noise of the 6R4 though
