Shot from earlier this year. I've been having a reorg. of my shots and keep finding shots I now like but wasn't bothered about then.

It is a very good image - I just find the face in the background very distracting.

Yes, that is what I thought when I first looked at it. Then I thought it gave some scale to what is a very small bird.
Now I'm no sure I like it again. ;)

Sorry. :( Didn't mean to be critical in any way. I think it is a keeper - just think the face looms a bit. If you know what I mean.

Nice shot, with or without the looming human. I am surprised you have Burrowing Owls in UK. I had read their habitat was only Rocky Mountain range through U.S. into Canada, plus a small area here in SW Florida. They certainly are cute little buggers.

Nice shot, Ian. The owl looked small but I wasn't sure how small it was. Then dewmuw mentioned a face which I hadn't even noticed the first time. I thought it was just a colorful background (shows you how intently I was just looking at the owl :) ). But how that i see the face, I can see how much smaller the owl is than I originally thought.

sparker1,
No, not native. This shot was taken at the Bird of Prey Centre here in the UK where they care for/breed birds of prey.
PacAce,
Yep, they are small, I would guess no bigger than five or six inches. Very cute and when on display they also have a man made burrow system where they put the owl in one end and it pops right out of the other. Kids love this. :)

Just for information, the Burrowing Owl is protected in Florida. My old neighborhood was home to quite a few. Whenever a family of owls nested on a vacant lot, the property owner was prohibited from doing any construction that would disturb them. It was a lot of fun just to watch their antics.
