We all know that G2 has 4 settings:

2272 x 1704
1600 x 1200
1024 x 768
640 x 480

What confuses me is do these sizes have anything to do with picture quality itself?

or are all the settings same picture quality, only different size?

Most of the pictures I take, I keep them on my computer, but I like to have the option to maybe print some one day.

Also, when I view a larger picture 2272 x 1704 or
1600 x 1200 at half it's size, it apears a lot more sharp then when viewed in it's full size.

Several things are going to affect your picture quality:

1) size of the image - larger contains more detail (more pixels to work with). So .. larger is better.

2) Compression - if shooting in JPEG mode, choose the lowest compression setting (it is the "S" setting on the G1 - presumably the same on the G2). Absolute highest quality is available by shooting in RAW mode but it is more difficult to work with. Most (non-purist) people will see very little difference between RAW mode and the "S" setting JPEG mode.

3) ISO - shoot with the lowest possible ISO (I leave mine set at ISO 50 most of the time). With higher ISOs there is more noise in the photo.

4) Clean lenses - always keep your lens sparkling clean and if you are using filters, keep them sparkling clean as well.

Ok then, I'll set the image size to the maximum. As far a sthe compression setting goes, I always set it on the best possible quality.

I'll have to purchase some lens cleaning materials then.

Thanks for your help.

This is analogous to looking at a blurry picture from further away. The further away you are, the less you can see the blurred "detail".

Great explanation, thanks a lot guys, I really appreaciate your help.

I'll set the maximum size on my camera and shoot like that from now on.
