If you could build your dream studio...

So I am finally moving my studio out of my house and I am pumped. I am building a studio atop of a garage this summer. I need / want all the help I can get with ideas so while we are drawing up the plans we can include everything.

The structure will be about 36' x 32'. and unfortunately at least a portion of the roof will be vaulted :( with a large part of it in the center flat. I have found plans and will modify them so that I can get the ceiling as high as possible without looking stupid.

I want to do a cyclorama but with the vaulted ceiling I doubt that will work, I will probably only be able to shoot in the middle of the building.

Some of the ideas I know I want are:

• Light rail system
• Backdrop pulley system
• Large sunroofs with soft and black out screens

So now I need all of your help with ideas of what you would want in your dream studio.

Move in first, start with basics, then plan according to what you need.

That's the best advice. Or get a bigger place. :)

Yep 4500 square feet space with carport @ a warehouse in a business park located in beautiful Philadelphia.

Adaptive, That is a dream space for sure!

I am more looking for equipment specific stuff. Like what background options would you go with, paper, muslin, cyclorama etc... I am just looking for a bank of ideas cause it seems I have hit a mental wall drawing up the plans and not wanting to leave anything out of the options due to poor planing.

If you don't know whether to get paper or muslin or cyc you might as well start off with the cheaper of the three.

Paper is super cheap - $40-$60/roll
Muslins, depending on quality - $100+
cyc - $2000+





Yeah I checked out my future studio today!!!! On the other side of that little wall thing in the middle is ANOTHER big open space equally large as what you see in the main part of the picture! Going to be doing ALOT of cool stuff in there. Should be signing papers early June.

I already use 9' rolls of seamless now but you can only do so much with 9'

What is the average height of a cyc?

9' rolls you can lift them as high as you want if your stands permit it. And you're kidding me, if you ran out of things to do with seamless then the world of photography i coming to an end for us all.

I've only seen 3 cyc walls in my life. They blend in seamlessly with the wall so whatever height your wall is, that would be your answer.

I'll keep ya updated, have any interior shots of your place?
