OK, here is my problem:
My camera died during a softball team shoot. My wife said there is no money available to buy another one. Considered a part time job flipping burgers or looking for charity donations on EBAY.
Any other suggestions?

What do you mean DIED? I think canon can service a lot of problems for much less than the cost of new. You could at least ask for a quote on a repair.

Get a new wife?
haha - just kidding
Like Stocky said - how much would a repair cost?

Part time job. Not sure how much charity is going on with ebay.

Raise your prices and insure your kit.

Tell your wife that you go to work and you earn the money, so it's up to you what you spend it on!!
That way, by the time you get out of traction, the loss of your camera won't feel so bad   ;)
Seriously, though, I have no serious solutions. Sorry :(
