The 430 can be set up as a slave unit, and the specs say it can be triggered by a 580, a ring flash or by the twin flash. can it be fired by another 430 as well? Please forgive me for asking what is probably a stupid question. I am new to flash, having avoided it forever due to a lack of understanding and the fear of wasting film. Now I am digital, and it is time to get over it. I want to use a twin flash set up for macro, using two 430's if it is possible. thanks

if u only have 2 flashes and one is going to be mounted on the camera... u will not be able to use the other as a slave. ull need a transmitter to use both of shoe.

+1 to that response.

A 430ex cannot be directly used to trigger another 430ex.

You'd have to set up either a wired or wireless transmitter to both flashes to trigger both.

Grab yourself a ST-E2 which is a master trigger to fire slaves. It optical so in bright sunlight, you may have a few problems with range or triggering but overall, a good enough system.

Will the ST-E2 trigger fire up to four flashes?

See if you can locate an online user manual. Should be able to do so.
