View Full Version : Is there a Gitzo 2531 or 41 coming out?

I've seen some mention of "31" Gitzo tripods in the different series. Since I am probably getting the 2530 Mountaineer soon, I'm wondering if I should wait for a possible 2531. (Or the 2541 instead of the 2540)
And, if so...what is the difference?
I think there's already a 2531 Explorer, if I'm not mistaken.
Thanks....

Thanks....but I'm really wondering if there is any news about a 2531 since I am leaning toward the 2530.
But, how is that version of that 2541 different from the 2540? I can't tell.

I am kinda "bumping" this because I've seen a 3531 pop up on websites....but I still don't know what the 31 and 41 have that is not on the 30 and 40. Worth waiting for??
(I e-mailed Bogen and got no response.)

I tried to order a 3530lsv from Canoga Camera and was told that I have to wait for the 3531lsv. I was also told that the price difference was 75.00 more??? From what I have seen online there is not much of a difference other than the newer ones are shorter when folded.

31and 41's are the new models slowly coming out....now mind you that I placed my order back in March and I am still waiting....

I may break down and get a 2530 instead.:)

So, I have decided and confirmed that I am getting the 253x tripod. And I'm waiting for the 31 version which, I have learned, is due to arrive in stores soon....if not already. Small changes, etc.
Anyways, in this unending investigating process that I've been going through (ugh!), I came across something I hadn't known to ask before....what are "leg angles?" One spec sheet I read indicated that there are two leg angles for some tripods. What does that mean and what are the options--how many leg angles are desirable? Does that matter?

Mountaineer tripods have two leg angles (45 and 60 degrees IIRC). Systematic tripods also have an 80 degree leg angle: The legs can spread wider, so the tripod can get lower to the ground. (difference of about 20 cm on a 3 series)

How much lower can it get? That is, is it worth jumping up to a Systemic tripod or will the Mountaineers "do" in most cases?
Thanks, René!

That is, IIRC. Gitzos website has the exact answer. ;)

It also depends on how low you'll need to go. If do a lot of macro shooting, for example, I can see how this feature can be a benefit. If you don't, then it (maybe) shouldn't matter.
