View Full Version : Does this appear too saturated?

Here's a shot of the rigging of a sailing ship in San Diego. I have only sharpened the picture a little bit and increased the saturation by one increment in Canon's bundled sofrtware. This was taken at sunset with a polarizer, so the colors are pretty rich anyway. I think it looks natural, but would like a second (or third, or fourth...) opinion. Here's some EXIF: 65mm, 1/30, f5.6, ISO 400

The colors look quite natural to me for sunset light.

I think the colors do look heavily saturated but not "over done". Looks pretty good to me.

Overall it looks fine but I think some selective de-saturation might help on the bottom beam as that one is just a bit more saturated than the rest.

Saturation in the warmer colors is much more widely accepted than saturation in the cool colors. The blue sky is not overpowering so the saturated orange works nicely.

looking back at it now i would tend to agree...nothing to crazy, but maybe back it down a bit and see what happens...

When I do saturation, not often, I try to duplicate reality. So...
Is that the way it was? Only you can answer that.

...I try to duplicate reality.
I tend to prefer that approach, too, with the caveat that you may sometimes need to de-saturate it a bit if people who weren't there at the time think that you processed it that way. It's a bit annoying when someone assumes that you've rigged it (pun intended:lol:) when you haven't.

I try to improve reality. Reality is boring; I see it everyday.

Agreed. I think this photo represents how it actually looked (as best as I can remember anyway).

Nice!
