I took some more pictures of this cat, with a brighter background, but the darn G1 found that the background was better to focus on, so the cat is slightly out of focus...
Darn that focus-thingy on the G1. Manual focus sucks (don't like the LCD) and the autofocus doesn't focus on what I would hope it would focus on...

Cute cat!
In the first picture the exposure of the animal looks good to me, but in the second it's a little grey. The cat's eyes seem a little out of focus in the second picture too.
I'm happy to see that you got right down on the ground to take the shot - you catch the animal from a cat's perspective, instead of that of a human.
My main suggestion for improvement relates to the cat's pose - in both cases it looks a little uncomfortable, rather like the cat is moving from one position to another. I would stick around on the ground a bit longer and see if it settles down and looks straight into the lens.
When I try that with my dog he comes right up to me and licks the lens...

Geir,
I agree with Shaun's comments. I take a lot of cat pictures since I have quite a few opportunities. My wife is a cat lover. :p
Also the idea to get up close and at ground level make for some good shots. The G1's swivel LCD make this a lot more practical than laying on the ground trying to look through a viewfinder.
Here is a photo that shows this perspective.

In both pictures I ended up with an out of focus cat because my camera (G1) decided to focus on something I didn't think it would, and I forgot to check...
But for down on the ground type shots, I just love the flip-out LCD ... just set the camera down, but you don't have to get all muddy just because you want to see what is going on...
