ok so heres the deal... im trying to figure out what i need. the 5 is costly, the 2 isnt. the 5 takes AA and the 2 takes rc5. the 5 comes with a remote and works at a greater distance. the 2 is lightweight and compact. the list goes on and on. heres my problem. the 5 is what im looking to get... but does it only work as a receiver? i really need it to double as a transmitter. thats biggest thing thats important to me at the moment. i dont need a remote right now and i dont mind using a corded shutter release, its just an added bonus if i get the lc5. please help and give me some insight before i make this purchase. oh yeah and as an added bonus... do any of the macro ring light adapters transmit for off shoe flashes? because if it does, i may just end up getting a macro light. thanks again!

The LC5 is a camera remote, the ST-E2 is a flash transmitter. What are you trying to do?

i have that understanding... but i wanted to see if the lc5 would be able to transmit to an off shoe flash via handheld or tripod... etc. i kno the st e2 is just a transmitter, i wanted to see if i could double dip with the lc5 since im planning on getting a remote... and wireless is always convenient but not necessary for me. also ive been looking at the mt-24ex macro light... and wanted to know if i would double dip with that one instead. would like to know if the flashes can come off and just use the transmitter as a master to set off 1-3 580exII flash units. that would be the best case scenario since im planning on getting a macro lens... and ill be able to have a macro twin light and a wireless transmitter.

Still not clear on what you want: The LC5 will only trigger a camera. (Although I guess you could modify the receivers cable to fire a flash. The transmitter would require a bigger hack).

But the receiver just shorts two wires to fire the camera. So at the most it would be a very expensive solution for an "infrared PC cable". A set of Skyports has more reach, and is cheaper. I think even a set of PW might be cheaper :p

The ST-E2 acts as wireless ETTL master.

thanks, i think the lc5 is now out of the picture... now will the mt-24ex work without mini strobes and act like a wireless master? if not... then the st-e2 is what im probably just going to get. thanks again.

I can't see no reason why it shouldn't, it's just a trigger yet I've not seen any mods yet you could contact these people and see if they offer a jack to the Canon remote socket:

No modification to the SkyPort would be required to get it to trigger a camera remotely. Only a remote release cable would be required and the same one used with the Pocket Wizards will also work fine with the SkyPort.
