I am very new to studio lighting, but have "inherited" a few pieces that I'm trying to make work together with what I already had. The gear includes a qflash T5D-R with bracket and 2x2 battery, two Ab 800's, Pocket Wizards, and a Sekonic L358 with PW module. I have figured out how to trigger the AB's with the Sekonic, but not how to trigger the whole set-up together. Would the most logical solution be to fire the camera to trigger the flashes and just meter at the same time, or is there another way?

Thanks in advance--

What kind of Power Wizards do you have? If you have one that can serve as a transmitter, you can mount that on the camera. And if you have another one that can serve as a receiver, you can connect that to the Qflash so that it can be fired remotely. The AB strobes can then be triggered by the Qflash optically. You will now be able to fire the strobes with the camera (to take a picture) or the light meter (to meter the lights).

The PW's are transceivers.

The PW's are transceivers.

Then you're all set. Use one with the camera as a transmitter and the other with the Qflash as a receiver. All you need are two but if you have more, you can use them on the other strobes. Make sure that all the PW units and the light meter are all set to the same channel.

The PW for the camera can be mounted in the hotshoe. To connect the PW unit to the Qflash, you'll need a male mono miniphone plug to a male household plug cord.
