As the holidays approach:

For those of you getting NEW cameras and gear for Christmas/holidays.

Don't forget that there are certain shots YOU MUST TAKE !!

This applies to the Northern Hemisphere. For Southern Hemisphere, add green grass, waves, and Bikinis/Thongs etc.

1) Dark, out of focus, shot of a room in your home (no flash).

2) Dark, out of focus, shot of a room in your home (with flash).

3) As above but with child/pet running toward you.

4) Photo TOO soft.

5) Shot of mandatory "Squirrel-on-a-branch"

6) Shot of mandatory "Bird-on-a-branch/wire"

7) Your car/truck in the driveway

Drunken friend on Snowmobile

What did I forget ??

Happy Holidays !!

What about an aged relative who wears glasses, so that you can get a reflection of the flash in each lens of the glasses.

Photo of new camera
Pic of high-contrast, finely-detailed, backlit subject so you can gripe about the terrible purple fringing that "my old brand-x never had".

A photo of your spouse/partner's bum, then a photo of them in mid-swearword holding their hands infront of their face.

Done it with my Nikon CoolPix 775, then my Olympus 700uz, then my Canon A60, then my Canon G5 and, ofcourse, the 10D.

I'm glad to see we got the duck covered. I read through the first few posts and thought, wow, I can't believe they forgot that.

Don't forget the back end of a deer or really any other wild animal. In captivity is fine too.

random shots of trees -- of which none have leaves...
overcast, grey skies...
frozen dead insects...
nice barbeque grill -- all wrapped up...

And all those other nice things that make it worth living in the northeast... argh...I think I need to move to the tropics. Nothing colorful or cheerful around here to snap away... except for my daughters.

Cat?

That's all I wanted to write, but then I got this error message (whatever happened to the value of brevity ...)

The message you have entered is too short. Please lengthen your message to at least 10 characters

Sunsets, you gotta do sunsets. And waterfalls, preferably in front of a sunset.
