I was taking pictires and the camera just seemed to turn it self off. I have replaced the battery and have verified that the CF card is good. In fact I have tried several CF cards. The only thing I have not had a chance to replace yet is the button battery. Has anyone else experienced this. The camera is about 2 1/2 years old.
Thanks in Advance

Do you mean that it's still dead after replacing batteries? Or that it'll revive with new batteries/flash but then shut down after a while? What lens are you using (bearing in mind the issues that arise with some older Sigmas)? Are you sure your 511s are good/charged up properly? And I would definitely try replacing the button cell after 2-1/2 years (although I don't think the 10D's been around that long - my D60 and I just celebrated our second anniversary).

First marketed March 2003. (10D - according to Canon)

The camera is still dead after replacing the batteries. Your right on the timing - it was purchased in 2003

Ahi ahi...same to my 10D 3 month ago..I was shooting then I switched the camera off at the end. 10 min later re-switched it on ....NO LIFE SIGN ! Not a battery problem. Never switched on until Canon reapaired it. Then I switched to 20D...
They say that was a problem in the internal power supply voltage regulator in the camera.. and cost me 50€ + VAT (in Italy).
Bye Bye 10D
PS: My 10D was 2 year and 12000 shot old.

Try pulling the main battery (the "button" battery) and let it set for 5 minutes.

Tried that - I even replaced it. It looks like the camera is off to Canon for repair - GREAT - just before the holidays.

That's not good. I am surprised that it died with only 12000 shots. I placed close to or over 30000 on my Canon S230 Point and shoot before it is showing sign of aging.
I hope this fixed this problem with the Digital Rebel and not die at 12000.

In fact I was surprised ! 12000 digital shots are not a great number in 2 years. A friend's of mine has taken 35000 shots without any issue ! But electronic equipment is in this way ... may be lucky or NOT.

Interesting...I rolled over 12000 earlier last week and no problems yet.

The fact that one 10D died after 12,000 shots ofcourse does not mean that there is a problem with the 10D in general and that all 10D's die at 12,000 shots.

it's just bad luck when it dies after 12000 shots! i've seen 10D's with 50-60-70K on the counter! and after replacing the shutter they can easily do it again:)
like said before it's electronical so it's just a case of good luck / bad luck because i've also seen one die after 200 shots;)
