Hi there,
Mum has in her camera box a Starblitz 250 flash, and I was wondering if I could use it on my Canon 400D?
She lives in another state and I don't want her to ship it to me if it's not going to be able to be used.
I want to learn to use it before I invest in a Canon Speedlite.
I thought I would ask here before I tried Dr Google.
Cheers :)

Check out the sync voltage via google, so long as it's below the voltage that will damage your flash it'll be fine. Sorry I don't know the specifics.

After a quick net search, I want to second the business of finding out the sync voltage and knowing what your camera can take. It would also be worth noting that the automatic exposure system is not ETTL and it does not use thyristor circuitry to save power, if I understand the information I found. However, it looks like you should be able to use it if the sync voltage is compatible with your camera.

Your flash seems to be listed here: http://www.botzilla.com/photo/strobeVolts.html for trigger voltage. It shows a trigger voltage of 6.8...
BTW - I just found a link that mentions a guide number of 25. If that's the case I wouldn't pay to have it shipped very far.....

400D is safe upto 250 volts. As Titus said it is quite low power so not really worth the shipping cost.

It's just something to learn a little with as I can't afford a speedlite yet.
Thanks for the replies...I appreciate them all.

It would appear that the unit has a swivel head which should allow bouncing the light. In that respect it will be far ahead of the built in flash and allow some practice.
