I just ordered a 40D and 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6. Now I'm in need of a bag, but unsure which one to get and am looking for advice. Most likely looking for a shoulder bag or similar solution.

Later in the summer I'll probably also be adding the grip and one additional lens (10-22mm f/3.5-4.5, 85mm f/1.8, or 50 f/1.4), so I want it to be able to hold those (in addition to the usual manuals, few filters, small rocket blower, etc.) as well so I don't have to buy a new bad in three months. But I don't want it be so big everything moves around.

Any recommendations you guys could give would be awesome. Thanks!

I enjoyed the lowepro slingshot 200 all weather. It provided very quick access to my camera and if you are not looking to carry any telephoto primes it is a great bag. It even has a cover that pulls from the bottom of the bag and protect it from dust and such. In the same section as your camera there is a micro fiber cloth to cover your lcd and it has card storage there too. I think that the best feature of this line is that you do not have to take the bag off to get your camera or cards out. Lowepro makes good bags and you can tell that they considered what it would really be used for.

You might consider the Kata H-14. I love mine, but the MKIII w/longer lenses doesn't fit well. I will be selling it next week once my new Kata 94 bag comes in.

Tamrac Velocity 7x - just enough room for the body, kit lens, and 70-300 with extra battery and a couple of filters. Hugs my body very well when slung over my shoulder (I was walking through a narrow-aisled bookstore and didn't bump it once). Access is just a touch snug, but other than that I love it.

Thanks for the ideas everyone, keep them coming.

I'm looking at the Kata H-14, and it looks to be a solid bag. I've heard that it may need a little modification to fit the 40D+grip, but that would be alright with me.

I'm hearing that the Tamrac Velocity 7x won't take a gripped body. Can anyone verify that it will fit one?

The Crumpler X MDH and Domke bags aren't quite what I'm looking for, but thanks for the recommendations anyways!

It does require a mod, but it is an easy mod, I did it to mine.

I don't have a grip on my 40D, and it just squeaks into the Velocity 7x without one. Sorry - I missed the part about you wanting to add a grip.

Just got my 40D in the same lense and the Slingshot 100; great size for not carrying a lot of weight but the sling style is nice since you can keep it on the back or swing it around to the front like a large "fanny pack"

I just bought new Tamrac 5608 (Pro 8) for my things. XXXL Pretty Boy was too small.
My advice: Buy big enought

Alright, I'm leaning towards the Kata H-16 once it becomes a little more available. It'll give me a bit more room than the H-14 for the grip and other items.

Also took a look at those Tamrac bags, and liked a few of them, so they're definitely in the mix as well.

I'm going to have to take a trip downtown to Glazers sometime this week to see what they have. Thanks as always!

I use a Lowepro Stealth Reporter AW400. It fits all the gear in my sig line, except the G9 and my wife's SD870IS, which have their own separate cases. Its heavy though.

Will any of these take a 40D with a 100-400 lens attached ?

Thinking particularly H-14 ??

thanks

Yes... I use the Kata H-14 and it fits my 40D with the 100-400 installed. I can also put in my 24 - 105 on one side and my flash in the other. I even have some spare room for a 2 CF Card holder, 2 Filters and 3 spare batteries.

my 40d with grip and 70-300IS fits into a tamrac 5627

I also use the Tamrac 5627. When I just want the 40D+17-55+hood thats what it goes in. It also had a nice pocket for cards, batteries and filters. I don't have the Grip but it wall also fit.
