My 128 mb CF card is nearly full but it is suddenly displaying a CF error. When trying to view the files with Explorer etc using the card reader attached to the USB port the files apear to be garbage with random letters as filename and dates ranging from 1980 to 2105. There are only 13 files on the CF ranging from 1 to 10 mb in size instead of several hundred medium resolution images. Does anyone know of any way to rescue the data? I can't even copy it to the harddisk. HELP!!

Hi mutandawhe,
Christiaan Grau made a fine (and free) tool to recover lost or corrupted data.
Check his site at:

Good recovery!

Hi Jaap,
Thanks for the tip! The tool is no longer freeware, but I'm gonna try the demo and see if it helps. If anyone has a link to the former program for Digital Image Recovery, now called "photorecovery" it would be great.
I'll keep you posted on progress (if any!)

I've tried Photorecovery & PhotoRescue to try to recover the images from the 128 CF card but neither have helped. There are just too many read errors on the card I have even tried to quick format the card under DOS and using the Canon G2 as this won't destroy the images but it won't write to the media and continues to give a CF Error. I quess I'll have to give up unless anyone has any other suggestions?
