try not to get any butt shots, its tough sometimes, but you have to understand the trick and whether the skater is goofy or regular to set yourself up.

show the whole skater's body, boards can look cool, but to get the full effect you need to show the whole skater

invest in some off-camera flashes, even during the middle of the day, they enhance your shots immensely, it will also allow you to up the shutter speed

you need to show some more of the gap, jump, etc... like in the first one, show what he is gapping off of, he looks good in the air, but it doesn't really show what he's doing much.

hope that helps, and if you haven't already, check out www.skateperception.com they have tons of info and also their forum is extremely helpful.

I really like #5 and #6, 6 especially. I'm gonna try my hand at some skate park shooting here in Indianapolis at night. Supposedly it's pretty busy...

Thanks, it was shot at a mobile skatepark setup on a church's grounds, Pretoria, South Africa.

The problem with the "butt shots" is that most of the guys were regular, and the sun was useless if you shot from the other side. But thanks for that, I'll keep it in mind!

I know about the fill in flash thing, I actually got told that I need to get one at the event. But at the moment it's too expensive for me. And using on camera flash overexposed my images for some reason, even if I switched the Av to 2-. Same happened to a friend's camera, no idea why.

And gotcha on the composition, I'll check it out when I get a chance to shoot again. Thanks!

Thanks for the link, I'll go over there and have a look. Bear in mind, this was my first ever skating shoot :)

Thanks for all the other comments guys, I appreciate it!
