I've had my G2 for a few weeks now and can't seem to get consistent indoor flash results.

I'm using AUTO, P and Shutter Priority modes, and varying both the main exposure and flash exposure, but my subjects (people) are either under or overexposed, depending upon the available light and the distance from the subject.

Typically, with AUTO or P and no exposure compensation, the subject is overexposed from 2 to 4 feet away. If I compensate 1 or 2 stops, it's fine (sometimes) at close range, but underexposed from 4 feet and greater.

Isn't there some way to set the flash to expose properly from any distance?

Do I need to use an external flash?

Help!

I have found that the built in flash is not adequate for good indoor photograhy. I bought the Canon Speedlite 420EX flash and have been pleased with the results.

Search the forums for 420EX to find out more.

David,

If you're using Evaluative Metering, try switching to Center Weighted and positioning the 'square' AF Frame on your subject to set the proper exposure. You can also use the FE lock on your subject and then recompsoe your pic before taking the pic. Good luck...Harvey
