Hi all
I have a strange problem. i left my 10D stored for 3 weeks and when i took it last day there were some tiny white insects behind the lcd glass moving around. i took a picture of a blue sky at f22 and again i saw some insect-like shapes (so they are on the sensor too).
Has anybody got this problem before? what this kind of insect feeds on?? silicon :( electronic cicuitry :( :(
Any idea, any solutions pleaase
Thanks
dan

Pixel peepers. All of them!
Honestly, I haven't an answer for this situation, but I believe that you ought to contact Canon tech support. Send them an e-mail. You've obviously got to get rid of them, but in a way that won't damage the camera. Diazanon would probably soil your sensor.

Do you still see these mites when sober?
:-)

We've got viruses and worms attacking computers and now we have mites attacking digital cameras! When will the madness end? :?

Hey Petiot, I can sympathize. Many many years ago I had the little buggers inside my Olympus OM1 viewfinder. While shooting I would see about 5 to 10 crawling around. Sort of creepy. I tried everything to get rid of them (chemicals, blasts of air, a little disassembly). Eventually, they finally all died, but it took about a year. Your's might be a job for the repair man. :(

Scottes, LOL,
I don't have any Idea how you can get rid of it, maybe you can leave it in the car trunk and kill this suckers with cold weather, if you live in cold area, make sure you bring it back in a zip lock bag to save your camera from condensation.

I would suggest placing it in a sealed container with a moth ball or two...
The only problem with this method is that .. well,. the rubber grip surfaces and plastic on these DSLRs have a profound ability to "lock in aroma"... I fear that once the mites are laid to rest.. you would have a camera smelling of moth balls forever.... (not too pleasant considering the cameras proximity to the nose when in use)
Obviously.. I would not attempt any other "bug spray" etc.. as the chemicals would more than likely damage the camera.
Where's Chloe Sullivan? We need to add this one to the "Wall of Weird" ;)

I had the similar problem two years ago with a Canon EOS 30 and it was a very small spider behind the LCD. The shop suggested to sent it in to Canon however after few weeks the the spider died or moved out because it did not see it walking and staring back at me with his or her many eyes. LOL
Marcel
ps. I hope it moved out of my camera I don't want to think that his or her cops is still in my camera!

No matter what you do, don't kill them. If you do, you're going to end up with dead mites under the LCD glass that'll never go away. Best to send it to Canon.

Open the body cap, battery door, CF card door and place your camera in a sealed box (wipe the box inner surface with alcohol) and place a piece of steamed bread inside that box. Hope those things will be attracted by those bread.

"... and place a piece of steamed bread inside"
Bake at 350 for 1 hour. When a fork goes through the CMOS the bugs are ready to eat. :)
"...Shutterbugs..." That got me laughing!!!!!

I thought the ladybug someone smashed into the CF slot was strange, this is even worse! I hope Canon is able to debug your 10D.

Or, alternatively, they will indeed be atrracted to the moisture and food, multiply rapidly, and infest the camera even more.
An example: Mites in hermit crab tanks don't stay on the food or in the water, they stay in the sand and on the crabs.
