I am going crazy!!!! My computer died a couple weeks ago. The hard drive was still good on it so when I got a new computer we put my old drive in along with my new so that I still had everything. I've reinstalled cs2 onto the new drive but I'm trying to find where my cs3 actions are on the old drive - I loved some of the ones I had and they of course were ones that I had purchased... not the freebie ones :( Anyone know which folder they should be in?!
Thanks!

Give this a try, go or find the directory where your PS2 was installed. It should be labeled "ADOBE" unless you have some other weird setup, then to directory "PS2" then to directory "PRESETS" then to directory "ACTIONS".

You should save every action set in a folder of your choice, that's backed up. Just select the action set and hit save. I didn't, and I lost all my actions even though I had a full drive backup. It was just too hard to find them and reinstall them so I rewrote them.

I don't know why Adobe hasn't changed the way this is done by now.. unless you saved your actions out of Photoshop you'll be unable to recover them, they won't appear in the presets directory..

i have an action folder which i backup every time i add a new action or tweak an existing one, that is then backed up..

This is what I was afraid of. I looked through every folder I thought they could have been in and didn't find them... :(
I didn't know this and whenever I would download an action I would trash the download after I installed it. Guess I've learned my lesson now to save them. Thanks everyone.

You could try doing a search for .atn files just in case you overlooked them.

Unless you explicitly saved the actions to your hard drive, they only exist in Photoshop's internal memory register. Didn't you back up the actions you purchased somewhere?

That's the reason that all my actions are stored to an external hard drive, and then linked to Photoshop through a shortcut in the Presets folder.

actually I can't remember if these were ones I downloaded from a site I had membership to or if they came on a cd that I bought with some backgrounds. hopefully they are on the cd.... now its just a matter of finding that darn thing.... definatly learned my lesson to save them now though.

Read Bobs answer again, he's someone you should pay attention to when it comes to PS. I hear he's also good with questions about the royal family.
