i made video with my S3 and the lens attachment of this spider also (320X280?)
i should have switched to a larger resolution 640X480 is the highest i could go...

Excellent shots, you can zoom in and out whilst videoing; interesting!

yep. before when i used super macro mode, i dont think it was possible...and with the lens attachment i can. im going to do more in the future with a larger size 640x480.
it is a bit tricky considering the limited DOF of the lens.
thanks Mick!

Roughly how large are these spiders? I assumed they were similar to the kind I find around the house here in BC, Canada which are roughly 1cm or less but in the video I get the impression they are actually a fair bit larger, and the background sounds tropical. Where do these suckers live?

NE florida.
this one was kinda big, about 1/2 inch long maybe a lil less..
most i find are small, a couple mm and larger.
thanks Tony for looking and commenting!

Those pictures are amazing. I really like number 2 for the detail. Number 4 is my favorite, nice to see the leaf litter.
And great videos too.

Hmm that's still pretty small.
I'd love to get my hands on one of those guys... well not literally :)
The second one in your set is particularly good here. I wonder what it would look like with the reflections of the flash removed.

yep, it is pretty small, i guess compared to tarantulas..lol
i dont know how big jumpers like this get.
im not sure about the reflections. i always notice them with the jumpers (in fact a large on a while back had me in the reflection also..i usually just ignore it, and accept it as part of the shot with these guys.

Hi John,
Number 4 is great, well they are all good :-) Take a look at your earlier shots, you have come alony way. Its been great watching you progress :-) Keep at it.
As for the reflections, to me they add life to the jumper. Think it would look odd without any.

wow. those are great shots! I really like the redness of the spider. Not seen one of these yet, but then again...I try not to get too extremely close to spiders unless my camera is in front of me.

Absolutely superb series John - #1 has to be one of the best Jumper facial shots that I've seen in a long while. Beautiful. I've been saying for a while that the quality of your images has really jumped of late, these just prove it.

i am glad you like them. it was a great find for me, i was glad to get some good shots of this guy. i also found a bird nest with hatchlings while working in the woods.
so i got my best bird shots ever, plus a great jumper...but the worst case of chiggers ..well not worst ;) but pretty bad...lol

What's a chigger (I've heard artie morris refer to them). I'd be very careful shooting nesting birds - it's very easy to either disturb the nest, or put a human scent on the nest and have the parents abandon it. Also, you can inadvertently alert predators to the nest...

thanks Mitch. :-) i hope the next ones at 640 x 480 will look better than the 320x280 size.
it look a lil pixelized..but it is a start!

chigger is the larvae stage of a harvest mite. lil buggers bite and put venom in your follicles and in your skin. it itches bad bad bad...all over my legs.
if you leave it a lone and put anti itch on it , it will go away in a few days to a week or so.
and i agree about the birds...we had past them by, while traversing through our subject property, setting monuments. they were just off our path by about 10-15 feet. so end of the day came, i grabbed my camera, and did a couple shots. they hardly noticed me.
even got one feeding a spider to them.
