Guys,

What good telephoto lenses are typically allowed in the mainstand of a stadium or venue of a professional team?

The sporting events I typically attend are:

- Soccer Games (Leagues and Worldcup)
- Tennis
- NFL
- MLB

I am asking because on the last worldcup in germany i wasn't allowed to take my 70-300 lens inside the stadium in some matches and allowed in some others.

I know it might depend on the venue and the team policy, but is there like a standard? I want to take the 70-200 IS f2.8 in plus a extender?

Depends significantly on the venue.

For example, Fenway Park allows damn near anything. Their policy is that it's fine as long as it doesn't interfere with anyone else's enjoyment of the game.

The Louisiana Superdome, though, doesn't allow "professional" cameras, including any and all DSLRs.

jonny, really covered it and is absolutely correct. I'd add to his comment that you need to check with both the venue and the team as you may find that they are not always consistent in their policy.

As stated above, check with the venue.

My experiece is that there is usually a restriction on the lens, as you found out. The 70-300mm DO (http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=150&modelid=9996) is short enough to not appear to be a telephoto. Might want to keep that one in mind.

Bring a silver XTi with a 50mm on it and keep the telephoto inside your coat pocket. :P

Some places also allow a DSLR, but only lenses up to 6".
