I took this today, it was really cold, what could I do better?

Only thing I can think of would be to have a stronger point of interest. The log isn't interesting or big enough to hold your eye, and the highlight is the same. The same photo with a twisted and gnarly tree stump in the middle would have worked much better.(IMHO)

Along with Martin's comments...the timing of the photo (harsh sunlight) really blowout the reflection. This photo taken at a different time of day may have a bit more appeal. Also, try different angles of the same subject. The over head looks good, but if possible, try different angles and see what effect that has.
