I would have to use the 800mm lens to take pics of my wife. That way I'd be far enough away and outside the homicidal rage zone she'd be in after I spent that much on a lens.

Some portrait photographers use 500-600mm lenses in model shoots. There was an SI swimsuit photographer that was noted for this. He used walkie-talkies to communicate to his assistant and the model.

They do give unique compression -- I have done it at 400MM, just never thought of more....... (cuz I don't own more)
