Hi all -

Thanks for helping me choose the Tamron 28-75 f/2.8. Today, I had a chance to finally sit down and take some photos w/ it. I wanted to share with you how cool they came out.

Thanks again for helping me choose such a great lens!

Did you try to sharpen them using Unsharp mask? If not try it. Otherwise, the images look pretty good. Seems like a really nice lens to add to a collection, especially if one can't afford a Canon jobbie...

There's a big difference in the photos . . . does this look better?

Oh yes! Beautiful. Congratulations on great shots.

I just picked up my 20D this week, and couldn't decide on the Tamron (took the kit lens as a starter as I have just moved back to SLR). I wondered if the 28-75 would actually be wide enough.
These shots leave me in no doubt that the lens is worth buying. I plan on adding the canon 70-200 F4L. I've read every comment I could find on what combination of lenses gives the best/ideal coverage. Any comments would be appreciated. I intend people, landscape, still-life objects to be the subject matter and wide angle is not particularly important.

So I show the photos to my better half, thinking that she'll finally see the value in my investment, and you know what she says to me???

"You couldn't pick a better quality rose?"

I swear, i'll never win . . . ;) ;) ;) ;)

Sounds like you're building my kit. I think the Tamron and 70-200 is a fantastic and relatively affordable combination. If you need to get wider the kit lens does better than it should for its price - especially stopped down. Eventually you (and I?) will probably want to upgrade the wide end with either a 17-40/4L or EF-S 10-22 or Tamron 11-18.

Great pic's, very impressed with that lens,

One question , how did you light the rose. On board flash or other

Cheers

NigelHi Nigel -

I used a standard tungsten lamp and bounced over a low ceiling in a dark room. Someone posted this a long time ago:

and I've been trying to work off the idea. Sorry . . . it's a Nik*n site.

Have fun!

Very nice shots and good information on the lighting technique you are using. She would never notice if the shot is a little out of focus, only if the rose is imperfect.
