View Full Version : Why are my RAW photos automatically converted to JPEG?

I have tried taking photos on my Canon Rebel XTi in the L+RAW mode so that every time the shutter fires I get two photos, one that is a high quality JPEG and one that is a RAW file. However, when I upload the photos to my laptop, they all come out JPEG. I've tried loading them through the software Canon gave me when I purchased my camera and also through other programs like Picasa, and the result is always the same. What do I need to do differently?

Are you saying there are 2 copies of every picture? Are the file names different?
I've seen a previous thread about this - will do a quick search.

This thread

suggests that you need the Canon RAW codec to see the RAW files in Windows explorer
Hope this helps

Aha, I think you nailed it Doug. My solution (the codec) was for Vista and your was for XP.
If the OP is using either of those 2 OS's that should cover it.

A HUGE thank you to both of you!! The solution for XP is just what I needed! Thanks for helping me out :)
