spyder2express screwed my computer

I used the spyder to calibrate my monitor but my video card overwrites the profile on start up and crashes my computer. I uninstalled the program but its still crashing my computer on start ups. sometimes it doesnt crash but other times it crashes like 5 times in a row. this only happens on start ups. im on windows xp. anyone know any solutions? their website and tech help is useless.

What video card? If the profile is being overwritten on start up what program is doing it? Thats not a fault of the spyder, or at least dont assume it is until you actually know what the problem is (if the machine is still crashing with the spyder software uninstalled it sounds like something else). And what exactly is the message when the machine crashes? if its a BSOD whats the error code.

the blue screen says PAGE_FAULT something of that sort. this only happend when i installed the spyder2express. i have a nvidia 8800 gtx. i have recent updated drivers and everything

It's not Spyder that kills it, it sounds more like the video card driver. Try going into safe mode, then display settings, and then remove any custom colour profiles. Also you can try reinstalling your video card driver - now's a good time to upgrade to the latest ForceWare release ;)

need more of the bsod error message, but that sounds like it could be a driver doing something its not supposed to. That wouldn't be related to the spyder software at all without more info.

I've worked in IT too long to accept that as an answer! People often make problems worse assuming 'x' did something when it in fact turns out to be something totally different, so its usually worth my time to find out what the actual problem is before doing anything else =)

Well im just assuming its the video card driver and spyder software creating some error because it happened right after i installed and calibrated.

heres the event 1001 reading:
x10000050 (0xb2db6150, 0x00000000, 0x8052ab28, 0x00000000). A dump was saved in: C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini060308-16.dmp.

and event 1003:
Error code 10000050, parameter1 b5209150, parameter2 00000000, parameter3 8052ab28, parameter4 00000000.

my drivers are updated to most recent.

Copy the spyder icm file, put it in a safe place. Do a system restore to before you put in the spyder software. See how things work.

Put the icm file back in place and have your color management use it. Does this crash the system? Spyder is also running an app in the background, as I recall, so it may be a problem but video drivers account for a whole lot of computer problems. Change one thing at a time; video drivers, a new bit of software or windows updates.

Id actually start with reinstalling your video driver (if system restore does not work or like me you disable it). A page fault is extremely strange for what the driver should be doing with any files from the spyder, its possible an unexplained something else happened which is causing the problem.

First though check the profile the card is currently using, the nvidia stuff has a place for profiles, I found the software didnt work quite as expected and ended up installing the updated xp color management applet.
