These are really good...I really like the B&W conversion. Did you use a PS Action?

Hey Jim great to see you again! The B&W came from a preset in lightroom, then I just do a little adjusting with exposure, contrast, and blacks until I get it to suit me. Are you using lightroom yet?

Good Morning All,

Been really busy last week and this week is the same. Friday I am shooting 2nd to Suzy for a wedding at the Mormon Temple in Kensington, MD. Afterwards I am doing the reception solo as Suzy has a prior commitment.

I picked up a 24" Dell Monitor last week on sale. In a word...awesome! I calibrated it this weekend using Spyder Pro.

My Crepe Myrtle in my front yard has gotten its "second wind" and exploded into blooms again...here is a shot I made on this past Saturday morning...this is the best it has looked in 22 years :)

I'm so happy - met with the managers of the venue and FB today and ended up with another job for them on Tuesday plus at least two more on dates to be determined :D

My BroInLaw is in Charlotte, and says it's raining like crazy.

Actually, I've been up most of the night. I just stayed away from the computer in hopes I might fall asleep more easily. Apparently the pool guy put some additional chemical(s) in the pool, and Lois and I both have itchy, almost painful, skin ever since our swim last night. I took a 2:00am shower, and it helped a little.

Also the knees were hurting, but that's normal.

Now it's time to get up and face the world, and I'm starting the day tired.

Been ever so busy...we landed a $2.86M contract yesterday :) My boss is one happy camper!

Shooting with Suzy is always fun and always a good learning experience for me...she is bringing out all her external lighting gear for this wedding and I get to play with it :D How fun it that! This isn't really a wedding shoot...rather a post-wedding shoot. The Mormons do not allow photography in the church sanctuary...so we meet the newly weds as they come out from the Temple and then do formals and candids all around the grounds.

Hope all is well in your end of California...looking forward to meeting you next Spring at the Cherry Blossom Festival...you are still planning to come I hope :)

I've always been heavy except for the few post-puberty years. My knees have been abused pretty much my entire life, although they still work (after a fashion). I was told that glucosamine with chondroitin was helpful, but every time I took it my knees would actually hurt worse. I gave up on it.

Recently, I started taking a 'Senior Formula' multi-vitamin, and my knees started acting up again after a few days. I checked the list of ingredients on the bottle, and found glucsamine with chondroitin. I stopped taking them just today, so hopefully in a couple days, I'll be feeling better.

Oh we stopped about every three hours for fuel. Saw some interesting places. But the grand canyon was the best. Stayed in Vegas for three days and San Antonio for three days, all on the navy dime.... The noise isn't to bad as long as you have hearing protection on. I had ones to where I could here and talk with the pilots as well.

Hi...Suzy and I had a great time this morning photographing the wedding of Ashley and John. We got rained out for the most part and had a limited time to shoot outdoors. So, we went to the Reception Building on the grounds of the Temple and made our photos there. Here is a window silhouette shot with the temple in the background, and here is a reflection shot of the couple by a small pond with them and the Temple reflected in the water...

To bad you are not closer to Destin, FL. I am doing a beach wedding (pro bono) for my cousin's daughter there the first weekend in October. THe wedding is on Saturday afternoon on Santa Rosa Beach at the Watercolor Inn. I can't wait to do this wedding...beautiful couple and a beautiful setting.

Actually Destin isn't that bad of a drive for me. I drive over to Tallahassee at least 3 times year. It's about 4 hours away from me. My dad lives in Thomasville Ga..so it's not that bad.

Well, if you want the experience and a chance to shoot in a 1st class setting than let's link up...from your posted work you would do an excellent job :) There is no $$ here...I was asked to do this one pro bono as my cousin and her husband spent all their $$ on the setting and the reception. When I said that I would do it for free they were overjoyed...appearantly wedding photography is really expensive in that area.

As for me...I shoot weddings as a hobby...I do it for the challenge it brings to my photography. I have done at least 15 gigs, over half weddings, in the past year and not been paid a nickle...I think if I were to bepaid it would take some of the joy from it.

I'll get back to you on it. I checked it's about 5 hours away. I would need to set up a hotel and figure out how much gas would cost and the big....talk the wife into it....hehe. Hi, all. Just saw Jim's photos from the wedding this week. We had a blast, as usual, and poor Doug. He's so cute. I had to do some instruction for the flash as I couldn't remember why the LCD blinks. Stupid tilt thing! :)

And the reception was fun. Jim is adorable and I love spending time with him. It's like having a 6'4" best friend who enjoys everything no matter how simple it is. Thanks, Jim. You make doing these weddings much more fun. I hope Ashley didn't mind my little excitement :) Her mother-in-law said she was glad I tried to loosen things up. I can't help myself. You know. :)

Wedding coverage was only three hours yesterday but I was hurting (hurt my hip badly a few days ago and haven't been able to sleep - last night was the third night and it's catching up to me) and the light was crazy intense. I'm used to our bright, harsh sunlight but yesterday it went to a new level. VERY hard conditions to shoot in.

I've downloaded but haven't started even looking at them yet. Will do that today a bit later...

Hi Kristin! Sorry to hear about your sore hip, I can relate to that! I don't know what you did or what the injury is, but I have been rubbing a cream I found at the pharmacy called MSM Cream. I have no idea why it works but I have been using it on my sore hip and it works wonders!

Sorry you had to battle the light at your wedding, I'm sure you will have many good ones though and I can't wait to see some.

MSM, is great. Used to sell alot of it when I worked for GNC...years ago. Never had to use it myself......bidding my time as I get older. But never heard a bad thign about it.

Thanks for the tip on the meds ... I have Voltaren cream but haven't used it on my hip yet. Gonna perk up the spa and soak in there later this afternoon/evening, I think!

Yeah, that MSM cream is amazing! I was in the pharmacy getting my husband something for his arm and I saw that jar of MSM on the counter, I asked the man working there if that stuff really worked and he said...TRY IT, You won't believe how good it works! I did and WOW! I was surprised, and it works within minutes of rubbing it on. Works on just about anything that ails you too.

I'm hoping that a nice long spa (with, mayhap, a small glass of wine) will relax it enough to let me sleep at least. I find that sleep cures pretty much everything for me so when I miss it for three or more days, it really knocks me around!

I must start in on my "to do" pile. We seem to be having an electricity issue so when I run the washing machine and the drier at the same time the whole circuit goes kablooey...which is turning laundry into more of an ordeal than usual LOL

Ok Lisa, Ill give you two photos to work with...and Ill give you literally a step by step tutorial to recreate the photo I posted with this.

Ok here we go

-Open the photo of Olivia

-then open the file of the texture

-Use the Move Tool (v), it is the top right tool on the tools bar..arrow with a cross

-Use that to drag the texture photo over the photo of Olivia.

-SUCESS a solid smooth transfer:p

-Then at the top, click Edit>Free Transform

-Stretch the texture photo over the photo of Olivia, make sure it matches up on all side.

-Then click the check mark to set the transformation.

-In the box that shows both the original photo and texture photo youll see a drop down
menu that reads Normal. Pull down the menu and scroll down the list to Linear burn.

Notice how it burns some of the colors and makes the overall pic look really dark. Not really what we want.

-Scroll down that menu and click soft light

-Notice how it lightly sets the texture on the photo? Thats what we want

-Now erase the texture from Olivia...make sure you keep the background un touched,
you want the texture to stay there.

DONE!

I showed you Linear Burn was to show you what it does, some will lighten, darken, colorize etc. I just want something to lay the texture down evenly, no blotchy areas where it doesnt look right.
