Leesa, I have both and I like both. The Pelican is made like so solid and it is heavy, but my stuff is well protected. The Airport Security bag is beautiful, but cost 2x's as much. So, you decide. I take the Think Tank with me mostly because it's bigger and looks like a regular carry-on, but has amazing protection.

The funny thing is that I was asked again if the woman I'm working with is my wife.
I didn't outright laugh in this person's face as I did in the past.
There were quite a few laughs to be had and was a good venue. The colored lights that were coming off the stage made it really cool for natural light shooting...

Maureen,
Thanks...this is a great link and super prices...have you bought from them before?
Jim, I buy all my ink, papers and I bought the 2400 from them. This past year they put in a distribution center in Fresno so my stuff comes within 24 hours of the order :)
Maureen, or everyone
Pelican or Airport International?
I only have the Pelican but I use it to haul my gear everywhere. I really like it a lot but one more lens or one more camera and I won't have enough room.......
SuzyView
8th of June 2008 (Sun), 20:58
The 1510 is smaller than the International and Security. But the 1610 cannot be used as a carry on. It's too big. The Airport International is the one I have, not Security. If you have that much gear, you'll need 2 1510 or 1 Airport Security. Maureen got her Pelican and I bought mine. I love it. And yes, it's plenty big if you don't have a ton of gear.

Great timing, Suzy! Right place, right time for sure :)
So, I'm already thinking about what gear to drag on my vacation. I'm definitely bringing these:
10-22
17-70
70-200
Can't decide if I want to bring the 100-400.
The 85 and the 28-135 are already waiting for me.
Will probably bring the Sigma 30 1.4, too, just because...

Ok I just watched the DUMBEST movie.
We have Pay Per View on Dish and now they have this limited recording thing. On some movies if you buy and DVRit, the movie will expire after 24 hours.
So we try not to get the limited recording ones. So we got Juno, and it was one of those movies that you wish you never saw, but had to watch the whole thing to see what happened.
Any suggestions for movie that is out it the theater. We are going to dinner and a movie for our anniversery

So on top of having to drive on in a torrential downpour and really strong winds Saturday, I was in extreme pain with abdominal cramps. I talked to the boss today and she said she had the same cramp/pain that I did. It would appear we got a case of food poisoning...same symptoms and we had similar food. Methinks it was the tomatoes.

I've been shopping for my upcoming trip so should have all of this waiting when I land:
40D + 28-135 lens
85 lens
ColourspaceO
Lowepro Fastpack
new CF cards
Don't think I need much else new, but who knows, if it keeps raining here I might be doing more cc damage :D

I feel for you Chris! I had Salmonella one time, UGH! The cramps and awful feeling lasted about 8 hours, but the after effects like feeling weak, and fear of food lasted a few days. It was the worst sickness I ever experienced, the pain was worse than labor pains. My husband had it too and he was able to throw up and felt better way before I did.
Chris Dana
9th of June 2008 (Mon), 21:14
Thanks, Kathy. If I could only throw up and get rid of it. Pepto is helping.

back from the 'date night'
We saw that new adam sandler movie. Very crude, rude and such...but really funny. I'm a big adam sandler fan, but he is getting a little to crude. Laughed a bunch though.
We stopped by the camera shop and they didn't have a lens to exchange. they said it was a 'mounting problem' so they sent me to the store in West LR and I got a new one there.
Also LADIES.....They carry those JIll-E bags. And they had them cheaper in the shop then online! I loved the bone one....I want it. BAD.

Speaking of getting older, I was surprised Harrison Ford looked so old, but still did his own stunts in the latest movie. It was actually not bad. I liked it. Still the National Treasure II was better than I expected and I liked it better than the Indiana Jones IV.

Hi.
Been around too much today. Took 516 pictures at the awards ceremony, at least 1 of each child shaking the principal's hand. It was tiring. Went to Costco and printed them all out and will bring them tomorrow.
Did the baby shoot yesterday, and will again tonight with my young ladies. They are going to come with me to my friend's room and we are surprising her with a real Cheesecake Factory Godiva cake I got at the CF this morning. Cost me $25, but I think it's much better than the Costco one. I'm feeling very proud of myself for all I've done for people this week, but I'm going to take it easy tomorrow. :)

Good advertizement? Thoughts?

Our photog did cards with an image of us on it from our engagement along with her info (obviously) and the location where the wedding images would be (along with the password).

Hi Folks! Just thought I would stop in and whine for a bit.
I had a family shoot tonight at 6:45. Had to do it tonight because one family member lives out of the country and is leaving tomorrow. It was 48 degrees, wind 18mph, overcast and lightly sprinkling. I had to find a place in the city park, because they wanted the shots outside, where I had a 12 foot tall hedge windbreak. UGH, dark area, had to use flash for all the shots it was a nightmare. Just got home, don't even want to import images, they won't be fun to PP. So there, I whined, now I feel much better! Except WHY is it still so cold, it's June, it's supposed to be warm!
Now for the happy words.....Only 1.5 more days of school and I am free of that job until Sept. 3 YIPPEE!:D
So how's everyone else?

Hi guys.
Sorry about yesterday. I wasn't fit company for anyone. I guess driving 1,000 miles in 24 hours is best left to younger people. After taking a brief nap in the the morning, I was up all day without too many noticeable side effects except for the extreme fatigue. I even managed to stay awake last night and watch a movie with my bride. Needless to say, once I did get in bed, I slept like a baby. I woke up with a miserable headache and a slightly sour stomach, but I attribute that all to the weariness from the day before. I'm hopeful that by the end of today, I'll feel near-human again.
What did I miss around here?
Stephanie? Did you get that lens swapped?

It's good to be back home, I took a ton of pics and after I get these weddings going I'll post some campfire shots I took last night. I'm not a camper. But it's a great group of girls and I found a person to assist with my assistant with bridal shows and e-sessions while I am gone.

I mean photography is made a 'man's' hobby/profession with all the manly gear and such.
THIS is a bag for women! I want it SO BAD!
I love the bag! and you are right, it's a man s world but we can add female attraction to it :-)
I have a shootsac and rarely use it. I bought the crumpler 7 million bag and LOVE it! It's become my "bag" it's purple with orange accents! I want to order a couple small bags to add to the side of it now.

I guess I can appreciate the ladies and their penchant for stylish bags. I was on the market for a good shoulder bag that would carry two bodies, and opted for the Domke F-1X in beige. That was a vote of confidence in Jon who is a Domke evangelist of some repute.
I actually like it a lot, and Lois approves. She said it looked 'expensive.'

Tom - glad to hear you are feeling better!
Lisa - your extra sales and the print orders are amazing :) Good for you!! Glad you like your web cam. I still don't own one.
I love my Crumpler 6MDH and I got the purple with orange, too! Orange is the coolest. I thought the 7 would be just too heavy with the way I pack so the 6 works a treat and I take my Lowepro photorunner or the Shootsac (depending on what I'm doing) for the second body or extra stuff. I like the photo runner because I snap it around my waist and forget about it and I can get the 40D with 70-200 in and out easily & with no fear of it falling out if I get into a weird position.

As a kid, I grew up in Iowa and Wisconsin. I checked the local newspapers there from time to time, and I see they're expecting floods it the Iowa town where I lived. Ironically, we moved there in 1947, and they had just had a big flood of the Des Moines river. I guess this happens from time to time.

I heard some mention of flooding on the news also, is it the Des Moines? They keep interrupting the other news to talk about the tornados. I always pay attention to the disaster area coverage, I have a daughter back that way and I always worry that she's okay.

The particular city is Ottumwa. It's southeast of Des Moines, and apparently somewhat susceptible to flooding in the lowlands.

Yikes! I lived in Oklahoma for a while and saw my fair share of tornados, I don't miss them at all. Now I just have to worry about earthquakes and volcanos!:) We really don't get much severe weather here where I live, we have had 2 earthquakes that I felt, 1 fairly large flood, and ash fall from Mount St. Helens, that's it in 20 years time.

Hey....I forgot to mention, I had a good experience despite all my troubles on the recent trip.
I mentioned I bought a Domke bag. The background of the story is this:
On an earlier trip to the Bay Area, I bought some SanDisk CF cards. They had a rebate program going, and for buying three 8-gig cards, I was to receive a $100 rebate. When the rebate arrived, it was a check made out to the store, and not me. That was a minor annoyance but I figured I had missed it in the fine print, and I accepted my own responsibility for that.
Fast forward. I was in the same store this weekend with the $100 check burning a hole in my pocket. I was on the market for a shoulder bag, and I saw the Domke F-1X in beige. It was marked $249.95, which was more than I had planned on spending, but I kept hearing Jon whispering in my ear, 'Buy the Domke. Buy the Domke.'
When I got back to the hotel, I logged on to Samy's site, and saw the same bag for $150.00. Now I really was upset. Actually, 'upset' wouldn't describe how PO'd I truly was. I felt I'd been misled on the rebate, and now I was feeling ripped-off to boot.
With the car problems and all, I couldn't do anything about it, but this morning, I wrote a long, not-so-pleasant email to the store owner telling him exactly what I thought of the whole situation. To my surprise, he called me on the phone less than 10 minutes later. We had a long, pleasant conversation at the end of which he offered to send me $100. The bag, according to him, had been mistakenly priced incorrectly, and he was refunding the difference to me without any more discussion. The check, as they say, is in the mail.
I'm a believer again.

I was pleased. It's a good store, and I'd hate to think they made a practice of gouging customers. He really couldn't have been nicer.
When you're in San Francisco, you might want to rund down there. IT's in Palo Alto, which really isn't all that close, but you should be able to drive there in about a half hour.
