well, i got the photos from yesterday off the camera, and through the lightroom session of the editing and culling.
tomorrow morning i will batch sharpen/pop them and then go back for final touches. Then uploading for viewing. i HOPE to have these done tomorrow b/c i have a wedding saturday (its a free one) and i want to be caught up by then.
Also have to make an album. One wedding...still waiting on the customer to let me know if she wanted all b&w. She sent me an email saying she liked the classic black and white...but she never answered me if she wanted it all in black and white.I mean come on. IT was an amazing venue! Some has to be color.
And then one from this bridal.
I also got two emails in a 24 hour period. One for a wedding in august, and one for one in april! I don't know if i'll get to do the april one...she lives like 3 hours from me. Wonder how she got my name. Must have been the bridal fair!

Great on the enquiries Steph!
And that's unfortunately typical in most areas - men just seem to get answers more clearly. I hope you stepped in and calmly said, excuse me, but could you please talk to me since I am the one with the issue. I do not tolerate such rudeness.

Yikes, a fellow photographer that I work with now & then just called to tell me there is a new photographer in town and that she is really good. That's not something I love to hear:( This town is small and we didn't want more competetion, we are kind of selfish!

Kathy - sucks to have more competition but at least she's actually charging for it. My "competition" does whole weddings for under $300...when she bothers to charge for them at all.

GREAT! UGH I hate that!
This new girl has moved here recently from New York, she is talented, but as you just mentioned.....she is NOT charging much at all. Looks like she actually gave away coupons for free senior portrait sessions, which worked, she has 4 seniors on there that I personally know. DAMN! This really annoys me, I don't mind competetion all that much, but I can't compete with "good and free"

Yup, that's what I've got here. This chick's work isn't fabulous but it's quite good and I can't imagine people not being happy with it. But she's not charging people for anything and I won't compete for that. I'd rather just not even have a business than work my butt off for nothing (or a loss)!

Yep! I am sure she did the free sessions to get her name and work out there, I will be interested to see what she charges once she gets some business. Her seniors looked good, but I think her weddings suck. Hopefully she knocks off the "free" nonsense soon. I may add a little incentive to my senior sessions this year, maybe some free wallets.
It is frustrating to me, but I knew it was going to happen some day, I have held the monopoly on photography in this town for quite a few years and competition is not something I'm used too. I am quite spoiled!:p:D

I don't know if Dennis Fong is just a good salesman or what, but the examples he posts are pretty convincing.

well i don'thave any external lighting, and i hate it to get a great shot with harsh shadows or poor lit faces. This looks like a cheaper solution...i can always add more off camera flash later.

Good Morning everyone
Good Morning Lisa and hope you have a fine day.
Good Morning All! Been a very, very busy week for me...I have two new contracts to get started with new clients...my "kickoff" meeting yesterday went for 9 hours! Got a lot accomplished however.
I am also working on a Bridal "rescue" mission this week. One of my new employees was married about 6 months ago. The photographer gave her 3 CDs of photo files and nothing else. So, I went through the files with her and we selected several for printing some 8x10 and some 5x7. I had to edit each file to bring out color and contrast. So far, I have made her a couple of dozen prints. Will do some B&W conversions next. She was thrilled with prints so far. Fun task. But she would have been left with a bunch of "flat" prints if someone had not done the proper PP on the files.

I'm hopefully going to the gym, then to work on these albums and image orders, Have to run to the post office and return the lens to "rentglass" I rented a lens for my assistant to use and it really did improve her work, SO guess what comes before the MacPro Book now! UGH.

Hey....I forgot to mention, I had a good experience despite all my troubles on the recent trip.
I mentioned I bought a Domke bag. The background of the story is this:
On an earlier trip to the Bay Area, I bought some SanDisk CF cards. They had a rebate program going, and for buying three 8-gig cards, I was to receive a $100 rebate. When the rebate arrived, it was a check made out to the store, and not me. That was a minor annoyance but I figured I had missed it in the fine print, and I accepted my own responsibility for that.
Fast forward. I was in the same store this weekend with the $100 check burning a hole in my pocket. I was on the market for a shoulder bag, and I saw the Domke F-1X in beige. It was marked $249.95, which was more than I had planned on spending, but I kept hearing Jon whispering in my ear, 'Buy the Domke. Buy the Domke.'
When I got back to the hotel, I logged on to Samy's site, and saw the same bag for $150.00. Now I really was upset. Actually, 'upset' wouldn't describe how PO'd I truly was. I felt I'd been misled on the rebate, and now I was feeling ripped-off to boot.
With the car problems and all, I couldn't do anything about it, but this morning, I wrote a long, not-so-pleasant email to the store owner telling him exactly what I thought of the whole situation. To my surprise, he called me on the phone less than 10 minutes later. We had a long, pleasant conversation at the end of which he offered to send me $100. The bag, according to him, had been mistakenly priced incorrectly, and he was refunding the difference to me without any more discussion. The check, as they say, is in the mail.
I'm a believer again.Yep. That makes it a very good deal, especially if you don't consider rebates "real" money.
Belmondo

Yep. That makes it a very good deal, especially if you don't consider rebates "real" money.
My attitude about rebates is that it's 'found money.' I generally won't buy something because of the rebate, although in this case, I was influenced enough to buy 3 CF cards whereas I normally would have only bought one or possibly two.
Jon....
I know you've mentioned it before, but I'm loathe to go looking through all your old posts to find it. I'd be interested in knowing what all you typically carry in your F-1X. At present I have both my 1-series bodies in it, plus a spare battery for each, the 35-70L, 16-35L, and the 70-300 DO.
Oh. there's a ham sandwich in there, too.

Oh. there's a ham sandwich in there, too.Varies all around the map, actually. Typically, I'll have a body on the 70-200 2.8 on its side (resting over a couple of boxes of camera and AA batteries and a shortish prime inside a HoodHat inside the 100-400 hood) in the main compartment, the 100-400 in a single-compartment insert (which doesn't have room for the hood). Also a 3-compartment insert (720-230) with a body on the 24-70 at one end, the 15-30 Sigma in the middle, and another lens or two at the other end (sometimes with a body mounted on that as well). If I'm not using the 70-200 on the 1D3, I can fit a 580EX in its case alongside that combo (other bodies aren't gripped), and the end pockets each can take another flash, sometimes with a Stroboframe Folding Flip Flash bracket and an OC-S2 cord. Cards, LensPen and microfiber cloth go in one front pocket along with screw driver set and some pens; filter wallet (Adorama's Slinger model), couple of grads and Cokin P holder in the other. Top mesh pockets get adapter rings for the Cokin filter holder and maybe some Wash-n-Dri packets. Top zip pocket - plastic garbage bag, couple of filter wrenches, notebook, film leader retriever (!) and a few other odds and ends. Back pocket has plastic disposable rain poncho, Mini-Mag Lite, couple of 12" PhotoFlex reflector discs, bunch of nylon cable ties, 3 dog food can lids, . . . Somewhere, usually one of the end pockets, will be a small (travel size) bottle of sunscreen and a Leatherman type tool. Mini-carabiners on many of the O-rings; between the backpack strap and congenital overloading of the bag, I've broken at least one of the nylon strap loops; a mini-'biner is a great substitute. They also make a handy place to clip keys, pens, water bottle, . . .
That's my F-1 on Cambags.com, the grey one, in the Canon section. They also have my navy F-2 up there.

Are you letting PhotoShop save in AdobeRGB? PhotoShop manages its colour space and, IIRC, will default to AdobeRGB. Most Windows apps and web browsers are unmanaged and use sRGB. AdobeRGB images will look duller in sRGB space. Rene Damkot (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/member.php?u=23893) has a link in his sig. with more on the topic.

Good morning, All!
I'm so happy - I've found the best little compact camera and now don't have to futz with buying one on this trip :) I know that might sound silly to most of you, but I use my compacts every day so finding one that does what I want it to do finally after months of putting up with the shortcomings of other models is such a delight!! And the best part? the camera was free!!

I actually had the camera already but because I have so much stuff, it was tossed in a pile over 18 months ago and forgotten about. We found this camera at the dive shop and waited for ages for someone to claim it, but no one ever did...so I adopted it.
It's a Casio Z750 and it rocks. It has some manual controls, you can actually set the focus point to wherever you want - and I mean wherever, it's not limited at all and easy to change, it actually grabs focus even in pretty bad light and/or with the zoom fully engaged most of the time - far far better than the Oly 720SW I've been using. There is detail loss at 400, its highest setting, but it's not bad at all for an ultra compact - I'd actually use it. It has a user set "Best Shot" mode so you can fiddle with stuff til you're getting exactly what you want for a scene and then lock it in. Remembers it forever it seems as the one I set while my Mom was visiting in like 2006 is still there LOL
I don't know if Casio's current models are as good, but I'd have to think they'd at least be this good - definitely a serious contender if anyone is looking.

Nah. I have no opinions except that it's a great camera if it works for you. I know nothing about them, but haven't heard anything bad.

Hehee, I was just joshin'!
It's certainly not a perfect camera, but for an ultra compact, it's very good. You do not want to blow things out, for instance, coz any adjustments on an overexposed image look terrible immediately. But for a cam to toss in your jean's pocket and just GO with, I think I'm pretty happy. We'll see how I feel once I get it side by side with my Mom's excellent Canon SD400.
As I use my ultra compacts every day finding one that I like using, so far, is a bit of a happy thing...and I'm bored :D

My son pitched a stellar game tonight, WOW, bases loaded at one point and only one run came in that tied the game, after that, it was history, 1, 2 and 3 we won!
Tonight I shot video for my husband...but to be honest capturing this game on video was much better then stills for sure!
OK, now to start work on my wedding, from the past week.

I'm about to do some marathon photoshop. My sisters much older boyfriend is a coreographer. He danced back up for Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake. Recently he did the corergraphing for the Pussycat Dolls in Las Vagas.. Roger tisdale is their manager (Ashely Tisdale's dad...aka Sharpae from high school musical) and he called jasen to see if his daughter wanted to come for an audtion and he needed headshots fast. So we tossed up a black sheet on the porch and i took some shots. Gotta have them done tonight!

Gads, sounds like I've been really lucky...my prints are coming back nicely from three different places. Until I get something freaky happen, I've decided not to touch the calibration again, seems to have done the trick the first time.
Of course, only one monitor is calibrated and it's the smaller one, but I'm too chicken to touch anything for fear of screwing up what already works!

I was an idiot for thinking I could stay outside for 7 hours today and not get hot. ;)
And I didn't get paid for the $93 worth of pictures I took and printed for the kids. The principal didn't pay me, like we agreed because there just isn't any money left in the budget. I was sad, but then several teachers and many parents have thanked me for the pictures because they never have seen anyone so dedicated to recording moments in time as I am. I have to say, I don't think I know anyone else who does what I do, but thank heavens the $93 wasn't really a problem for me. If it was not $.16/picture at Costco, I couldn't so this so much. I've done more shooting in May & June this year than 6 months usually.

the house is a foreclosure, kinda tore up, but has LAND and a gravel road, I'm thrilled.
My husband is an expert at fixing up these houses and that is why I wanted it so it could be exactly like we want, I get an office, a theater in the basement, a tire swing for Ami :-)
